A new member of the genus Alphacarmovirus was detected in Stellaria aquatica using high-throughput RNA sequencing analysis. The complete genome sequence of this new virus isolate, tentatively named "Stellaria aquatica virus A" (StAV-A), comprises 4,017 nucleotides with five predicted open reading frames (ORFs) and has a typical alphacarmovirus genome organization. Pairwise comparison of StAV-A with selected members of family Tombusviridae showed 44-58%, 32-64%, and 19-49% sequence identity for the overall nucleotide sequence, polymerase, and coat protein, respectively.

The 7,572 nucleotide genome of pueraria virus A (PVA) contains genes that encode a movement protein, an aphid transmission factor, a virion-associated protein, a coat protein, a protease + reverse transcriptase + ribonuclease H, and a transactivator/viroplasmin protein, as well as two intergenic regions, which are all common features of members of the genus Caulimovirus. The CoTVA genome contains two positive-sense RNA segments, namely RNA1 (6922 nucleotides), which encodes a predicted polyprotein, and RNA2 (4613 nucleotides), which encodes a movement protein and coat proteins (CPs).
