Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative condition characterized by progressive memory loss and other cognitive disturbances. Patients with AD can be vulnerable to vascular damage, and damaged vessels can lead to cognitive impairment. Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) treatment has shown potential in ameliorating AD pathogenesis, but its effect on vascular function remains unclear.

In contrast to other types of autoimmune encephalitis, HE shows an excellent response to steroid treatment. We aimed to investigate the rates of antithyroid antibodies (ATAs) and probable HE in patients with unexplained mental dysfunction and compare the clinical characteristics between the good- and poor-outcome groups.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) architecture ResNet has been tested to verify its ability to handle selected area electron diffraction pattern (SADP) datasets carrying information on lattice defects including strains, thermal lattice vibrations, point defects, dislocations, and twin boundaries. The disordered states of the crystal lattices in the presence of these defects were predicted by molecular dynamics simulations, first principles geometry optimizations, and lattice manipulation operations in an effort to establish a possible dataset augmentation strategy for the improvement of classification performance of the ResNet. Using the disordered lattice information originating from the defects, test dataset SADPs were generated by simulating electron diffraction in transmission electron microscopy.

However, acceleration of the hydrogen evolution reaction due to cathode flooding in a high-current-density region makes this challenging. Herein, we find that partially ligand-derived Ag nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) could prevent electrolyte flooding while maintaining catalytic activity for CO electroreduction.

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic highlights the urgent need for effective antiviral agents and vaccines. Drug repositioning, which involves modifying existing drugs, offers a promising approach for expediting the development of novel therapeutics. In this study, we developed a new drug, MDB-MDB-601a-NM, by modifying the existing drug nafamostat (NM) with the incorporation of glycyrrhizic acid (GA).

Silk fibroin (SF) displays excellent mechanical properties and cell compatibility. Nonetheless, the mechanical properties of silk fibroin scaffolds used in artificial bone substitutes are weaker than those of natural bone, and silk fibroin is deficient as an osteogenic agent.

These internal changes are reflected to the fecal microbiota composition and, bacterial metabolites production. In accordance, the application of probiotics has been broadened to industrial animals, including swine, which makes people to pursue better knowledge of the correlation between changes in the fecal microbiota and metabolites.

Investigations have been made to explore the applicability of an off-the-shelf deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) architecture, residual neural network (ResNet), to the classification of the crystal structure of materials using electron diffraction patterns without prior knowledge of the material systems under consideration. The dataset required for training and validating the ResNet architectures was obtained by the computer simulation of the selected area electron diffraction (SAD) in transmission electron microscopy. Acceleration voltages, zone axes, and camera lengths were used as variables and crystal information format (CIF) files obtained from open crystal data repositories were used as inputs.

Although stannic oxide is a good catalytic material for formate production, a metallic phase is formed under high reduction overpotentials, reducing its activity. Here, using a fluorine-doped tin oxide catalyst, a high Faradaic efficiency for formate (95% at 100 mA cm) and a maximum partial current density of 330 mA cm (at 400 mA cm) is achieved for the electroreduction of CO.

Computational calculations and experimental studies reveal that the CoOOH phase and the intermediate-spin (IS) state are the key factors for realizing efficient Co-based electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). However, according to thermodynamics, general cobalt oxide converts to the CoO phase under OER condition, retarding the OER kinetics. Herein, we demonstrate a simple and scalable strategy to fabricate electrodes with maintaining Fe-CoOOH phase and an IS state under the OER.
