The study aimed to explore how somatization and depression are related to lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) caused by benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) and the changes in these conditions post-treatment.
Researchers evaluated 120 participants over a 12-week period using various symptom assessment tools, finding that higher LUTS severity was associated with increased somatization and depression at the start.
After treatment, significant improvements in both somatization and depression scores were observed, suggesting that alleviating LUTS may also benefit mental health.
