Background: We aimed to investigate the incidence of extrapulmonary findings identified on low-dose computed tomography (CT) that may warrant evaluation by cardiothoracic surgeons and describe their management and referral patterns at our institution.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of patients who underwent low-dose CT through a centralized Lung Cancer Screening Program at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital between January 2018 and December 2022. An electronic medical record review was performed for patients with incidental findings.
Objectives: SRSF2 mutations are known to be associated with poor outcomes in myelodysplastic neoplasm, but studies on their prognostic impact on acute myeloid leukemia (AML) remain limited. In this retrospective study, we analyzed clinical and pathologic characteristics of patients with AML and correlated the outcomes with SRSF2 mutations.
Methods: We characterized the morphologic, immunophenotypic, molecular, and clinical findings in AML with mutated SRSF2 and compared them with SRSF2 wild-type (WT) myeloid neoplasms (MNs).
Aberrant Wnt signaling has been found in many solid organ cancers, as well as hematological malignancies. However, its role in classic Hodgkin lymphoma (CHL) remains unclear. We evaluated the expression of Wnt signaling components LEF1, β-catenin, FZD6 and Wnt5a/b and their correlation with the prognosis in 50 CHL patients by immunohistochemical stains.

Methods: We evaluated and compared morphologic, multiparametric flow cytometry (MFC), and molecular genetic findings in patients with CCUS (n = 37), MDS (n = 75), and acute myeloid leukemia with myelodysplasia-related changes (AML-MRC, n = 24).
Results: CCUS patients showed variable MFC abnormalities including >2% CD34+ myeloblasts (5.
Objectives: We evaluated MYC and p53 expression, TP53 aberration, their relationship, and their impact on overall survival (OS) in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL)/lymphoblastic lymphoma (LBL).
Methods: We identified 173 patients with ALL and LBL, including 12 cases of mixed-phenotype acute leukemia, 8 cases of therapy-related B-cell ALL (B-ALL), 119 cases of B-ALL, and 34 cases of T-cell ALL/LBL diagnosed from 2003 to 2019. We retrospectively assessed p53 and MYC expression by immunohistochemistry of bone marrow and correlated MYC expression with p53 expression and TP53 aberration.
Purpose: We sought to determine the benefits of epidural anesthesia (EA) in pediatric surgical patients.
Methods: This study is a single-institution retrospective review of EA for pediatric patients undergoing thoracotomy or laparotomy from 2015 to 2020. Patients with recent or chronic opioid use were excluded.
Introduction: Patients with mutated and overexpressed p53 have an aggressive course in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). Studies on the impact of MYC expression in AML are limited. This is the first study to evaluate MYC expression and p53 status in AML and MDS.

Methods: Retrospective series including 190 patients with OCSCC undergoing neck dissection between 2016 and 2018. A change in pathologic grossing protocol was initiated during the study period to assess residual adipose tissue.
Objectives: To develop and validate an algorithm to predict occult nodal metastasis in clinically node negative oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OCSCC) using machine learning. To compare algorithm performance to a model based on tumor depth of invasion (DOI).
Materials And Methods: Patients who underwent primary tumor extirpation and elective neck dissection from 2007 to 2013 for clinical T1-2N0 OCSCC were identified from the National Cancer Database (NCDB).
p53 expression and MYC extra copies (MYC-EC) have been reported to serve as independent adverse prognostic markers in patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). However, the impact of p53 expression in MYC-EC lymphomas has not been delineated. Conversely, CD99 expression has been shown to have a positive impact on survival in patients with germinal center-type DLBCL, yet nothing is reported about the impact of CD99 expression and MYC status.

Traditionally, ex vivo immunostaining is conducted in fixed tissue sections, while live tissues are analyzed using genetically engineered fluorescent reporters or adoptively transferred, pre-labelled cell populations. Here, we validated a protocol for immunostaining and imaging in live, thick slices of lymph node tissue, thus providing a spatial "map" of the lymph node while maintaining the viability and functionality of the slices.

Researchers evaluated the quality of bone marrow biopsy tissue acquired with a motorized bone marrow biopsy device versus a standard manual device based on the following criteria: biopsy length, percentage of aspiration artifact/intrastromal hemorrhage, length of nonhematopoietic bone, and overall quality of the sample.
Methods: Bone marrow biopsies (motorized, = 30; manual, = 120) from two academic medical centers were evaluated by two board-certified hematopathologists.
The lymph node is a structurally complex organ of the immune system, whose dynamic cellular arrangements are thought to control much of human health. Currently, no methods exist to precisely stimulate substructures within the lymph node or analyze local stimulus-response behaviors, making it difficult to rationally design therapies for inflammatory disease. Here we describe a novel integration of live lymph node slices with a microfluidic system for local stimulation.

Known chromosomal changes causing MDS include deletion of the long arm of chromosome 5, runt-related transcription factor 1 (RUNX1) also known as acute myeloid leukemia 1 protein (AML1), and very rarely fusion genes involving RUNX1 at t(5;21)(q15;q22). We present a case of a 71-year-old female with MDS, refractory anemia with excess blasts, type 1, with a combination of two cytogenetic abnormalities, specifically a concomitant translocation between chromosomes 5q15 and 21q22 and deletion of chromosome 5q13q33.

Here we report two cases of extranodal B cell lymphoma with spindle cell dominant morphology (sp-BCL) of uterus and maxillary sinus. Case 1 was a 54-year-old female with a large mass in the lower uterine segment, inseparable from the wall of the rectum and the urinary bladder.

Here, we present a case of a 50-year-old man who presented with signs and symptoms of acute leukemia with concern for APL. Therapy was immediately initiated with all-trans retinoic acid.

Herein we discuss a case of recurrence of CTCL skin lesions after cord blood transplant in a patient who continued to have 100% donor chimerism in bone marrow.

We report CD30 expression in cutaneous follicle center cell lymphoma and in cutaneous post-transplant peripheral T-cell lymphoma. Histopathologists should be aware of CD30 expression in cutaneous lymphomas outside the realm of so-called CD30+ lymphoproliferative disorders to avoid diagnostic errors and improper medical treatment.

Although the disease is predominantly found in Asian populations, there are occasional cases reported among Caucasians and rare occurrences in African populations. The etiology and pathogenesis of the disease are unknown and the clinical presentation can mimic several benign and malignant disease states.

Successful microvascular free flap reconstruction requires adequate arterial inflow and venous outflow. We report 4 cases that demonstrate the not uncommon occurrence of locating valves in veins during microvascular head and neck reconstructive procedures. Failure to recognize these valves could have compromised the venous anastomosis.
