Importance: There is limited evidence guiding surgeons in how much mesh to resect when treating mesh complications.
Objective: The aim of the study was to compare rates of recurrent prolapse after mesh excisional surgical procedures for prolapse mesh complications.
Study Design: This multicenter, retrospective cohort study included patients, identified by Current Procedural Terminology codes, who were treated surgically for prolapse mesh complications at 8 institutions between 2010 and 2019.
Objectives: There are no data on current surgical practice patterns for benign total vaginal hysterectomy (TVH) despite recently published guidelines. The objective was to determine gynecologic surgeon practice patterns regarding TVH perioperative interventions and to assess adherence to clinical practice guidelines.
Methods: A survey to assess TVH practice patterns was distributed to gynecologic surgical society members for completion.
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease characterized by metabolic dysregulation which is frequently associated with diabetic foot ulcers that result from a severely compromised innate immune system. The high levels of blood glucose characteristic of diabetes cause an increase in circulating inflammatory mediators, which accelerate cellular senescence and dampen antimicrobial activity within dermal tissue. In diabetic wounds, bacteria and fungi proliferate in a protective biofilm forming a structure that a compromised host defense system cannot easily penetrate, often resulting in chronic infections that require antimicrobial intervention to promote the healing process.

Objective: The aim of the study was to compare prolapse recurrence, retreatment, and symptoms along with the incidence of adverse events between patients undergoing vaginal uterosacral hysteropexy and sacrospinous hysteropexy.
Study Design: This was a multicenter retrospective cohort study of patients who underwent vaginal uterosacral or sacrospinous hysteropexy (SSHP) between 2015 and 2019.
Study Objective: To compare mesh complications and failure rates after 1 year in laparoscopic minimally invasive sacrocolpopexy (MISC) with ultralightweight mesh attached vaginally during total vaginal hysterectomy (TVH), laparoscopically if posthysterectomy (PH), or laparoscopically during supracervical hysterectomy.
Design: Single-center retrospective cohort study.
Setting: Tertiary referral center.
Importance: Intradetrusor injection of onabotulinumtoxinA is performed via varying injection paradigms but no studies have studied the various effects of these paradigms on patient experience with the procedure.
Objectives: This randomized clinical trial aims to compare pain and procedure time between patients receiving a 100-unit dose of onabotulinumtoxinA in 5 injections compared to 20 injections for the treatment of idiopathic overactive bladder or urgency urinary incontinence.
Study Design: Patients presenting with refractory overactive bladder or urgency urinary incontinence at 2 clinical sites were identified and randomized to undergo onabotulinumtoxinA treatment with 5 injections versus 20 injections.

Methods: This multicenter retrospective cohort study is a secondary analysis of data collected retrospectively at one institution and the multicenter randomized control PACT trial. Women were excluded for no follow-up between 9 months and 2 years postoperatively or undergoing concurrent non-urogynecologic procedures.
Cutaneous invasive fungal wound infections after life-threatening dismounted complex blast injury (DCBI) and natural disasters complicate clinical care. These wounds often require aggressive repeated surgical debridement, can result in amputations and hemipelvectomies and have a 38% mortality rate. Given the substantial morbidity associated with cutaneous fungal wound infections, patients at risk need immediate empiric treatment mandating the use of rapidly acting broad-spectrum antimicrobials, acting on both fungi and bacteria, that are also effective against biofilm and can be administered topically.

Method: Retrospective review of an endovenous practice from 2007-2019. Clinically significant incompetent perforators were treated by Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA), or segmental radiofrequency ablation (RFA).
Vaginal hysterectomy rates in the United States are decreasing, despite it being the recommended hysterectomy route for benign hysterectomy by multiple societies. Visualization issues are a known barrier to a medical student learning in the operating room, and it is likely that this also extends to resident training. In addition, vaginal surgery can be taxing on both the surgeons and assistants, with high rates of musculoskeletal work disorders reported in vaginal surgeons.

Recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis (RVVC) is a widespread chronic infection that has a substantial negative impact on work and quality of life. The development of antimicrobial resistance and biofilm formation are speculated to contribute to pathogenicity and treatment ineffectiveness. Designed antimicrobial peptides (dAMPs) are chemically modified from endogenous antimicrobial peptides that provide the first line of defense against pathogens.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe relentless growth of multidrug resistance and generation of recalcitrant biofilm are major obstacles in treating wounds, particularly in austere military environments where broad-spectrum pathogen coverage is needed. Designed antimicrobial peptides (dAMPs) are constructed analogs of naturally occurring AMPs that provide the first line of defense in many organisms. RP557 is a dAMP resulting from iterative rational chemical structural analoging with endogenous AMPs, human cathelicidin LL-37 and Tachyplesin 1 and the synthetic D2A21 used as structural benchmarks.

Objective: The primary objective of this study was to describe patient compliance with pelvic floor physical therapy (PFPT) for high-tone pelvic floor disorders (HTPFD) and to compare patients who are compliant with prescribed therapy to those who are not. The secondary objective is to describe second-line treatments offered for HTPFD for returning patients.
Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study of women with a HTPFD who were prescribed PFPT at a tertiary care referral center.
European Union Directive 2013/39/EU, which amended and updated the Water Framework Directive (WFD; 2000/60/EC) and its daughter directive (2008/105/EC), sets Environmental Quality Standards for biota (EQS ) for a number of bioaccumulative chemicals. These chemicals pose a threat to both aquatic wildlife and human health via the consumption of contaminated prey or the intake of contaminated food originating from the aquatic environment. EU member states will need to establish programs to monitor the concentration of 11 priority substances in biota and assess compliance against these new standards for the classification of surface water bodies.

Purpose: To limit corneal damage and potential loss of vision, bacterial keratitis must be treated aggressively. Innovation in antimicrobials is required due to the need for empirical treatment and the rapid emergence of bacterial resistance. Designed host defense peptides (dHDPs) are synthetic analogues of naturally occurring HDPs, which provide defense against invading pathogens.

The concentration data for D4/D5/D6 in sediment were individually sorted and the 95th centile concentrations determined in sediment on an organic carbon (OC) fugacity basis. These concentrations were then compared to interpolated 5th centile benthic sediment no-observed effect concentration (NOEC) fugacity levels, calculated from a distribution of chronic D4/D5/D6 toxicologic assays per OECD guidelines using a variety of standard benthic species.
