Purpose: Food insecurity is prevalent among patients with cancer. Gaps in our understanding of preferences for food assistance among Latino or Hispanic, immigrant, and people with multiple races and ethnicities limit uptake of food assistance interventions among these populations. We aimed to deeply understand the needs and preferences and barriers to food assistance intervention uptake among low-income, predominantly Latino or Hispanic, immigrant, and people with multiple races and ethnicities and cancer to inform development of tailored interventions.

Superior transseptal versus left atriotomy approaches in isolated mitral valve surgery.

Objective: The superior transseptal approach to mitral valve surgery offers improved exposure compared with left atriotomy; however, concerns remain regarding postoperative arrhythmias and pacemaker placement. This study investigates intraoperative parameters and postoperative outcomes in these approaches.

Methods: Retrospective review of 259 adults undergoing isolated mitral valve repair or replacement over a 10-year period was performed.

Objective: Gastric adenocarcinoma (GAC) is the 17th most common cancer in the UK with a 5-year survival rate of 22%. GastroPanel (Biohit Oyj; Helsinki, Finland) is an ELISA kit that measures pepsinogen I (PGI); pepsinogen II (PGII); gastrin-17 (G-17); and Helicobacter pylori IgG antibodies (Hp IgG). PGI and the PGI/PGII ratio correlate inversely with the severity of chronic atrophic gastritis (AG).

Outcomes of massive transfusion recipients administered ABO-incompatible fresh frozen plasma.

Background: The provision of ABO-incompatible fresh frozen plasma (FFP) in massive transfusion (MT) has become accepted to conserve AB FFP stock. There is an evidence gap in non-trauma settings. We compare characteristics of patients who received ABO-compatible or ABO-incompatible FFP during an MT episode due to any cause of critical bleeding, and assess the impact of incompatible FFP transfusion on inhospital mortality.

Impacts of birth season and production system on gastrointestinal parasitism and growth in Katahdin lambs.

Gastrointestinal nematode (GIN) infection adversely affects the performance and well-being of forage-based sheep throughout the world. The study objectives were to estimate longitudinal differences between birth seasons and production systems for lamb postweaning growth and indicators of GIN infection. Data were collected on Katahdin lambs within a single flock from 2006 to 2022.

Improvement of PET recycling and upcycling practices is an area of ongoing research. One method for PET upcycling is chemical depolymerization (through hydrolysis or aminolysis) into aromatic monomers and subsequent biodegradation.

Gas-phase organic acids are ubiquitous in the atmosphere with mixing ratios of several species, such as formic acid and acetic acid, often as high as several parts per billion by volume (ppbv). Organic acids are produced via photochemical reactions and are also directly emitted from various sources, including combustion, microbial activity, vegetation, soils, and ruminants. We present measurements of gas-phase formic, acetic, propionic, pyruvic, and pentanoic acids from a site near Boise, Idaho, in August 2019 made by iodide-adduct chemical ionization mass spectrometry (CIMS).

Ectopic Pregnancy in a Non-communicating Rudimentary Uterine Horn: A Case of Successful Medical Management and Literature Review.

A non-communicating rudimentary uterine horn is a Müllerian abnormality that manifests due to abnormal Müllerian duct development. This abnormality is associated with endometriosis, infertility, and pregnancy complications, including ectopic pregnancy, abnormal fetal presentation, abruption, increased fetal mortality and morbidity, preterm rupture of membranes, preterm birth, intrauterine growth restriction, and uterine rupture. If pregnancy does occur, there is a high risk of complications, most notably rupture of the rudimentary horn.

Improvement in Cystoid Macular Edema Secondary to Systemic Bevacizumab in a Patient With Coats Plus Syndrome.

To report a pediatric case of Coats plus syndrome that initially presented resembling familial exudative vitreoretinopathy (FEVR). A single case was analyzed. A pediatric patient was referred at 2 years of age to the retina clinic for exotropia and decreased visual acuity in the right eye and was found to have a dense vitreous hemorrhage.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study included adults with MRSA bacteraemia treated between January 1, 2013, to December 31, 2022. Patients receiving combination therapy with vancomycin and ceftaroline were matched in a 2:1 ratio with those on vancomycin monotherapy based on bacteraemia source and illness severity.

The Ajin genome has unique genes, phosphatase and glycosyltransferase, compared to the OverHedge.
