Diversity of Endophytic Fungi Associated with Taraxacum coreanum and Their Antifungal Activity.

Endophytic fungi were isolated from healthy leaf and root samples of Taraxacum coreanum. Of the 72 isolates recovered, 39 were from leaves and 33 from roots with an isolation frequency of 54% and 46%, respectively. Based on ITS sequence analysis, 72 isolates were classified into 19 genera of which 17 were under the phylum Ascomycota and 2 were under Basidiomycota.

Quantitative relationship of dioxin-responsive gene expression to dioxin response element in Hep3B and HepG2 human hepatocarcinoma cell lines.

Dioxin response element (DRE) is a cis-acting DNA sequence mediating the 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD)-induced gene expression. The present study was undertaken to elucidate TCDD-responsive gene expression profiles and their relationships to the number of DREs in liver cancer cells. Hep3B and HepG2 human hepatocarcinoma cells were exposed to 50-nM TCDD for 0, 1, 2 and 4h in culture, after which gene expression profiles were analyzed by the microarray hybridization using a chip containing 24,000 cDNAs prepared from the human liver.

[A case of the pancreatic duct change after a long-term pancreatic stenting in pancreas divisum and the fine structural analysis of occluded pancreatic polyethylene stent].

The pancreatic duct stenting is now recognized as the treatment option for a number of pancreatic disorders. Although the stent-induced ductal changes may result, there is little information regarding the frequency of these stent-induced changes in chronic pancreatitis. Pancreatic stents may occlude with time, but there is only little information available on the nature of the clogging process.

Diffusion changes suggesting predominant vasogenic oedema during partial status epilepticus.

Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) has demonstrated a focal area of cytotoxic oedema during partial status epilepticus (PSE). However, vasogenic oedema related to the breakdown of the blood-brain-barrier (BBB) and ictal hyperperfusion could be the predominant DWI findings in the epileptogenic area during PSE. We report a case of PSE with ictal aphasia, right hemiparesis, and repetitive focal motor seizure of the right side.

Phosphorylation of p38 MAPK induced by oxidative stress is linked to activation of both caspase-8- and -9-mediated apoptotic pathways in dopaminergic neurons.

We evaluated the contribution of p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase and the events upstream/downstream of p38 leading to dopaminergic neuronal death. We utilized MN9D cells and primary cultures of mesencephalic neurons treated with 6-hydroxydopamine. Phosphorylation of p38 preceded apoptosis and was sustained in 6-hydroxydopamine-treated MN9D cells.

Timetable for intestinal rotation in staged human embryos and fetuses.

Background: The existing data on intestinal rotation during human development are contradictory regarding the timing of major events, and as such an exact timetable for rotation of the intestine in humans is not yet available.

Methods: We studied the initial formation and rotation of the intestine by microdissection and histological observations in 72 human embryos and fetuses at two to 12 weeks postfertilization. The embryos were classified according to the Carnegie staging system.
