Medical Internet of Things (IoT) systems can be used to monitor and treat patient health conditions. Security and privacy issues in medical IoT services are more important than those in any other IoT-enabled service. Therefore, various mutual authentication and key-distribution schemes have been proposed for secure communication in medical IoT services.

This cohort study aims to establish three subcohorts based on genetic testing results to assess the health impact of genetic variations. This study evaluates changes in participant quality of life (QoL), unmet needs and mental health over time based on their genetic variant status.

Methods: This study enrolled 703 patients who visited four tertiary medical centers in Korea.
Metallic nanowires have served as novel materials for soft electronics due to their outstanding mechanical compliance and electrical properties. However, weak adhesion and low mechanical robustness of nanowire networks to substrates significantly undermine their reliability, necessitating the use of an insulating protective layer, which greatly limits their utility. Herein, we present a versatile and generalized laser-based process that simultaneously achieves strong adhesion and mechanical robustness of nanowire networks on diverse substrates without the need for a protective layer.

Surgery is the only effective curative treatment but requires balancing fistula healing against pain, wounds and continence impairment. Sphincter-preserving procedures do exist but demonstrate variable rates of success.

However, direct EHDO for realistic hydrophobic lignin-based oil production remains challenging. Herein, we discuss the molecular dynamics that govern the EHDO of lignin bio-oil over Pt/C in an acidic electrolyte added with 2-propanol or a surfactant.

Background: Donor and recipient morbidity have not been sufficiently reported in large-scale comparisons of PLDRH and ODRH.
Methods: This retrospective study reviewed 3348 donors who underwent PLDRH (n=329) and ODRH (n=3019) and their corresponding recipients (n=3348) between January 2014 and August 2023.

Background: An anomalous left vertebral artery (aLVA) can complicate aortic arch surgery. We examined the safety of various aLVA revascularization strategies during open total arch replacement.
Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 92 patients undergoing total arch replacement from January 2018 to May 2023 and identified 11 patients with aLVA.
Background: This study aimed to evaluate the predictive ability of two widely used early warning scoring systems, the Modified Early Warning Score (MEWS) and the National Early Warning Score (NEWS), for predicting stroke occurrence in hospitalized patients.
Methods: The study enrolled 5,474 patients admitted to the intensive care unit from the general ward using data from the Smart Clinical Data Warehouse (CDW). MEWS and NEWS were calculated based on vital signs and clinical parameters within four hours of stroke onset.
Seafood quality preservation remains a critical focus in the food industry, particularly as the freeze-thaw process significantly impacts the freshness and safety of aquatic products. This study investigated quality changes in frozen mackerel subjected to two thawing methods, room temperature (RT) and running water (WT), and assessed the potential of hyperspectral imaging (HSI) for classifying these methods. After thawing, mackerel samples were stored at 5 °C for 21 days, with physicochemical, textural, and spectroscopic analyses tracking quality changes and supporting the development of a spectroscopic classification model.

However, limited clinical data are available for the Korean population. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the characteristics and oncological outcomes of patients with PALB2-mutated and non-mutated PALB2 in Korea.

Advancements in statistical techniques have expanded their use beyond simple population tracking to predict potential habitats based on the environmental conditions of sites detected eDNA. This study used species-specific molecular marker and targeted qPCR techniques to assess the distribution and habitat requirements of the endangered Gobiobotia naktongensis, a flagship fish species in Korean sandy river systems with increased public interest related to habitat restoration evaluations associated with dam construction.

To provide evidence on the potential benefits of adherence on improved survival, we investigated the effects of post-diagnostic adherence to the recommendations regarding diet, physical activity, and body weight on all-cause mortality among Korean cancer survivors.
Methods: Among the total number of cancer survivors ( = 173,195) recruited from 2004 to 2013 for the Health Examinees study, 5485 were selected for the analyses and classified by tertiles according to the adherence score.
This study reevaluates criticism of the Korean government's R&D investment strategy, which was considered an 'R&D cartel' and was cited as a reason for the Korean government's R&D cuts in 2023, through an advanced framework of quantum game theory. By modeling the interaction between the government and researchers as a quantum information strategy game, it redefines the dynamics of R&D investment as a quantum game involving two key players: the R&D manager (Alice) and the research performer (Bob). This quantum game, akin to the Prisoner's Dilemma but focused on responsibility and sincerity, allows for the exploration of strategic complexities and decision-making dynamics not possible in classical models.

We analyzed the carrier frequency and estimated the incidence of -associated polyposis in East Asian and Korean populations, for which limited data were previously available.
Methods: We examined 125,748 exomes from the gnomAD database, including 9,197 East Asians, and additional data from 5,305 individuals in the Korean Variant Archive and 1,722 in the Korean Reference Genome Database.
Study Design: Retrospective magnetic resonance imaging grading with comparison between experts and deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs).
Objective: The application of deep learning to clinical diagnosis has gained popularity. This approach can accelerate image interpretation and serve as a screening tool to help doctors.

Electroencephalography (EEG) helps to assess the electrical activities of the brain so that the neuronal activities of the brain are captured effectively. EEG is used to analyze many neurological disorders, as it serves as a low-cost equipment. To diagnose and treat every neurological disorder, lengthy EEG signals are needed, and different machine learning and deep learning techniques have been developed so that the EEG signals could be classified automatically.
