Transformation and rosette formation of peripheral blood lymphocytes were studied. We have observed decrease in lymphocyte response to the mitogen as well as in spontaneous ability to the transformation. The percent of B-rosettes was diminished, while T-rosettes were in normal ranges.

NTB reduction test, both spontaneous and stimulated with E. coli endotoxin, was performed in peripheral blood granulocytes of 40 individuals of both sexes aged between 18 and 64 years treated conservatively at the nephrologic outpatient clinic. Serum creatinine, urea and uric acid were assayed at the same time.

MPO activity in the neutrophils has been evaluated in 25 patients with lung carcinoma. Surprisingly for us we observed no differences between patients and controls in the total MPO activity. However, we noted the increase in the percentage granulocytes with the first and fourth degree of scores in cancer patients in comparison to normal adults.

In comparative studies made in patients with pneumonia we have treated 14 cases with Latamoxef and 16 cases with Ceftazidime. We have concentrated our attention on the side effects of these drugs on hemostasis. In 8 patients treated with Latamoxef we have found a prolongation bleeding time, moderate hypoprothrombinemia, thrombocytopenia and nearly no normalization of APTT and plasma euglobulin fibrinolysis.

In comparative studies made in patients with pneumonia we have treated 14 cases with Latamoxef and 16 cases with Ceftazidime. We have focused attention on the side effects of these drugs and on the phagocytic capacity of granulocytes. In our patients we have noted a decrease of bactericidal activity of plasma and granulocytes and an elevated NBT reduction capability of resting granulocytes.

We have elaborated a system for testing the phagocytic activity of human blood platelets. Blood was sampled to heparin and ACD and centrifuged. This procedure yields platelet rich plasma (PRP).

The effect of somatostatin on haemostasis in the dogs was tested. The following data could be found: marked shortening of clotting time, decrease of platelet count, decrease of fibrinogen, level, an increase of plasma euglobulin fibrinolytic activity, prolongation of thrombin time and consumption of plasminogen. The obtained results indicate a biphasic haemostatic reaction, first hypercoagulability and then hypocoagulability.

The effect of heparin on the activation of trypsinogen by enterokinase and on trypsin activity has been investigated. Proteolytic activity of trypsin has been determined using caseinolytic method. It has been found that heparin inhibits trypsinogen activation only when it is preincubated with proenzyme before introduction of enterokinase to the tested system.
