Abdominoperineal excision with partial anterior en bloc resection in multimodal management of low rectal cancer: a strategy to reduce local recurrence.

Purpose: Total mesorectal excision is the gold standard in the performance of an abdominoperineal resection but little has changed in the way the perineal operation is performed. A frequent problem is anterior dissection. The aim of this study was to present the results of abdominoperineal resection using selected partial anterior en bloc resection to reduce recurrence.

Histology and culture results among subjects with antibodies to CagA but no evidence of Helicobacter pylori infection with IgG ELISA.

Objective: Serological evidence of antibodies to cytotoxin-associated gene A (CagA) antigens may exist without concomitant Helicobacter pylori IgG enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) seropositivity. In a recent case-control study, this serological pattern was strongly linked to stomach cancer, and it was hypothesized to represent "burned-out" CagA-positive infections. The aim of this analysis was to test this hypothesis.

Recombinant human tissue transglutaminase for diagnosis and follow-up of childhood coeliac disease.

Highly discriminatory markers for celiac disease are needed to identify children with early mucosal lesions and for rapid follow-up. The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential of circulating anti-tissue transglutaminase (tTG) IgA and IgG antibodies in the diagnosis and follow-up of childhood celiac disease. An ELISA using recombinant human tTG was used to measure the levels of IgA and IgG anti-tTG antibodies in 226 serum samples from 57 children with biopsy-verified celiac disease, 29 disease control subjects, and 24 healthy control subjects.
