The elliptic flow of prompt and non-prompt was measured in the dimuon decay channel in Pb+Pb collisions at   with an integrated luminosity of with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The prompt and non-prompt signals are separated using a two-dimensional simultaneous fit of the invariant mass and pseudo-proper decay time of the dimuon system from the decay. The measurement is performed in the kinematic range of dimuon transverse momentum and rapidity   , , and 0-60% collision centrality.

A measurement of and production is presented. It is based on a data sample from Pb+Pb collisions at and collisions at recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC in 2015, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of and in Pb+Pb and , respectively. The measurements of per-event yields, nuclear modification factors, and non-prompt fractions are performed in the dimuon decay channel for GeV in dimuon transverse momentum, and in rapidity.

The inclusive and fiducial production cross-sections are measured in the lepton+jets channel using of proton-proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Major systematic uncertainties due to the modelling of the jet energy scale and -tagging efficiency are constrained by separating selected events into three disjoint regions. In order to reduce systematic uncertainties in the most important background, the process is modelled using + jets events in a data-driven approach.

Previous studies have shown that weighted angular moments derived from jet constituents encode the colour connections between partons that seed the jets. This paper presents measurements of two such distributions, the jet-pull angle and jet-pull magnitude, both of which are derived from the jet-pull angular moment. The measurement is performed in events with one leptonically decaying  boson and one hadronically decaying  boson, using of collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector at delivered by the Large Hadron Collider.

The performance of the missing transverse momentum ( ) reconstruction with the ATLAS detector is evaluated using data collected in proton-proton collisions at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV in 2015. To reconstruct , fully calibrated electrons, muons, photons, hadronically decaying , and jets reconstructed from calorimeter energy deposits and charged-particle tracks are used. These are combined with the soft hadronic activity measured by reconstructed charged-particle tracks not associated with the hard objects.

The Tile Calorimeter is the hadron calorimeter covering the central region of the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. Approximately 10,000 photomultipliers collect light from scintillating tiles acting as the active material sandwiched between slabs of steel absorber. This paper gives an overview of the calorimeter's performance during the years 2008-2012 using cosmic-ray muon events and proton-proton collision data at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV with a total integrated luminosity of nearly 30 fb .

Lessons Learned: Panitumumab has no clinical activity in metastatic RAS wild-type small bowel adenocarcinoma (SBA) and ampullary adenocarcinoma (AAC), possibly due to the foregut and midgut derivation of small bowel and ampulla. These results, along with findings from genomic characterization of SBA, suggest that SBA represents a unique intestinal malignancy and treatments should not be habitually extrapolated from colorectal cancer.Further studies evaluating the benefit of targeted therapies exclusively in SBA and AAC are warranted.

Transcription factors (TFs) and microRNAs (miRNAs) regulate gene expression: TFs by influencing messenger RNA (mRNA) transcription and miRNAs by influencing mRNA translation and transcript degradation. Additionally, miRNAs and TFs alter each other's expression, making it difficult to ascertain the effect either one has on target gene (TG) expression. In this investigation, we use a two-way interaction model with the TF and miRNA as independent variables to investigate whether miRNAs and TFs work together to influence TG expression levels in colon cancer subjects.

Several extensions of the standard model predict associated production of dark-matter particles with a Higgs boson. Such processes are searched for in final states with missing transverse momentum and a Higgs boson decaying to a bb[over ¯] pair with the ATLAS detector using 36.1  fb^{-1} of pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV at the LHC.

A search for heavy pseudoscalar (A) and scalar (H) Higgs bosons decaying into a top quark pair (tt[over ¯]) has been performed with 20.3  fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at a center-of-mass energy sqrt[s]=8  TeV. Interference effects between the signal process and standard model tt[over ¯] production, which are expected to distort the signal shape from a single peak to a peak-dip structure, are taken into account.

Since the advent of modern surgery for pancreatic cancer, clinicians have recognized this cancer's propensity to recur locally, metastasize, and cause death. Despite significant efforts to improve patient outcomes with better adjuvant therapy, only modest gains in survival have been observed. An alternative strategy of neoadjuvant therapy followed by surgery has the potential to improve patient selection and survival, and expand the pool of patients eligible for curative surgery.

Purpose: ALDH1A1, one of the main isotopes of aldehyde dehydrogenase-1 is involved in the differentiation and protection of normal hematopoietic stem cells and functions in alcohol sensitivity and dependence. We evaluated the associations between ALDH1A1 polymorphisms, alcohol consumption, and mortality among Hispanic and non-Hispanic white (NHW) breast cancer (BC) cases from the Breast Cancer Health Disparities Study.

Methods: Nine SNPs in ALDH1A1 were evaluated in 920 Hispanic and 1372 NHW women diagnosed with incident invasive BC.

Background: The nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) signalling pathway is a regulator of immune response and inflammation that has been implicated in the carcinogenic process. We examined differentially expressed genes in this pathway and miRNAs to determine associations with colorectal cancer (CRC).

Methods: We used data from 217 CRC cases to evaluate differences in NF-κB signalling pathway gene expression between paired carcinoma and normal mucosa and identify miRNAs that are associated with these genes.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) invited Servier, the company manufacturing trifluridine and tipiracil (T/T; trade name: Lonsurf), to submit evidence for the clinical and cost effectiveness of T/T compared with best supportive care (BSC) for metastatic colorectal cancer (third-line or later). Kleijnen Systematic Reviews Ltd (KSR), in collaboration with Maastricht University Medical Center, was commissioned as the Evidence Review Group (ERG). This paper presents a summary of the company's submission (CS), the ERG report and the development of the NICE guidance for the use of this drug in England and Wales by the appraisal committee (AC).

Background: In 2011, we reported the outcomes of pancreatic cancer (PC) patients enrolled in phase I trials at our institution from 2004 through 2009. At the time, gemcitabine and erlotinib were the only Food and Drug Administration-approved drugs for PC and median overall survival (OS) from consultation in the phase I clinic was 5 months. We sought to determine the impact of novel therapeutics on PC patients in phase I trials.

Half of miRNAs expressed in colorectal tissue are expressed < 50% of the population. Many infrequently expressed miRNAs have low levels of expression. We hypothesize that less frequently expressed miRNAs, when expressed at higher levels, influence both disease stage and survival after diagnosis with colorectal cancer (CRC); low levels of expression may be background noise.
