Infertility is a common problem. Despite this, a dearth of urologists are trained in infertility care. Improved training opportunities may improve proficiency and interest in subspecialized training.

Safety and efficacy of the ROCK-2-inhibitor Belumosudil in cGvHD treatment - a retrospective, German-Swiss multicenter real-world data analysis.

Belumosudil is a first in class ROCK2-inhibitor approved by the FDA for the 3rd line treatment of chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGvHD). In this retrospective real-world analysis, we report safety and efficacy data of belumosudil treatment from 5 German/Swiss transplant centers. A total of 33 adult patients (median age 59 years) with moderate (n = 2) or severe (n = 31) cGvHD were treated on individual request due to lack of EMA approval.

Design and Efficacy of Custom-Made Cleaning Splints for the Approximal Plaque Removal-A Laboratory Study.

Cleaning splints (CSs) can facilitate interdental brush (IDB) insertion and guide IDBs during cleaning movement. Cleaning efficacy with and without CSs was to be assessed and compared for a fully dentate (FD) and a partially edentulous (PE) situation. For two maxillary typodont models simulating either an FD situation or a PE situation with every second tooth missing, suitable IDBs were selected and each cleaning splint was designed and fabricated by 3D-printing.

Aim: Comparing oral and gut microbiome profiles between patients with and without ulcerative mucositis during allogeneic stem cell transplantation (aSCT).

Materials And Methods: Specimens from oral mucosa, saliva, and stool were collected pre-(T0) and post- (T0 +28d ± 14d) aSCT (T1). Microbiome structure differences were analyzed by 16S-rRNA-gene sequencing, and associations to patients' clinical characteristics were investigated.

Using the Nutri-Score to visualise food reformulation in Germany: the case of breakfast cereals.

Background: The reformulation of commonly consumed foods towards less sugar, fat, and salt is an important public health strategy to improve food choices of consumers and thus address the high prevalence of overweight and obesity. Front-of-pack nutrition labels like the Nutri-Score may drive reformulation and support nutritionally favourable food choices. Breakfast cereals are of special interest in that they tend to be high in sugar and are relatively often targeted at children.

Quantitative assessment of neurodevelopmental maturation: a comprehensive systematic literature review of artificial intelligence-based brain age prediction in pediatric populations.

Introduction: Over the past few decades, numerous researchers have explored the application of machine learning for assessing children's neurological development. Developmental changes in the brain could be utilized to gauge the alignment of its maturation status with the child's chronological age. AI is trained to analyze changes in different modalities and estimate the brain age of subjects.

Removal of antibiotics in constructed wetlands: a review and bibliometric analysis.

This study offers a comprehensive systematic review on the removal of antibiotics in Constructed Wetlands (CWs), evaluating their efficacy as an alternative to conventional wastewater treatment methods. Data from 82 articles were analyzed, focusing on removal rates, antibiotic types, and system configurations, including scale, vegetation, sediment, flow, hydraulic retention time (HRT), and hydraulic loading rate (HLR). The findings indicate that full-scale CWs, particularly those utilizing vegetation like Cyperus alternifolius L.

Patient and Physician Communication in the Allogeneic Transplantation Setting: Challenges and Potential Solutions.

Allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation is a challenging treatment characterized by multiple morbidities, the need for long-term care, and a significant mortality risk. Consequently, close patient and physician communication throughout treatment is crucial. We aimed to review the literature examining patient and physician communication around critical aspects experienced by allogeneic survivors over the transplantation trajectory, such as the informed consent process, transplantation-related morbidity (eg, psychosocial distress, cognitive dysfunction, sexuality), adherence to treatment, and the use of complementary and alternative medicine, as well as interventions and strategies to improve patient and physician communication.

Conceptualization and teaching health advocacy in undergraduate medical education: a document analysis.

Background: Health advocacy is considered to be a core competence for physicians, but it remains unclear how the health advocacy role, despite being described in overarching competency frameworks, is operationalized in undergraduate medical education (UME). This study aimed to identify how health advocacy is conceptualized and taught in undergraduate medical curricula.

Methods: We performed a qualitative analysis of curriculum documents from all eight medical schools in the Netherlands, all of which offered competency-based UME.

Secondary solid malignancies in long-term survivors after total body irradiation.

Background: Total body irradiation (TBI)-based allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) is a curative treatment for selected patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Yet, secondary malignancies contribute to long-term morbidity and mortality with TBI potentially influencing these risks.

Methods: This retrospective study analyzed the cumulative incidences of secondary solid malignancies and precancerous lesions of 89 consecutive AML patients after TBI-based conditioning before 1st allo-HSCT between 2000 and 2016.

Variant genital gender-affirming surgery: a systematic review.

Objective: To review the available literature on variant genital gender-affirming surgery (GGAS), including the reasons for performing it, the surgeries themselves and their outcomes.

Methods: A systematic review on the performance of variant GGAS was conducted (International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews [PROSPERO] identifier: CRD42022306684) researching PubMed, Embase, Web of Science and Cochrane databases from inception up to 31 December 2023. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were followed, and risk of bias was assessed for each study using the five-criteria quality assessment checklist.

Deciphering the needs of patients with hereditary breast and ovarian Cancer in the Process of Genetic Counseling to Inform the Development of a Mobile Support App: a qualitative study in Germany.

Patients with hereditary breast and ovarian cancer (HBOC) are not only concerned about their own health but also about that of their children, grandchildren, and other relatives. Therefore, they have specific needs for information and support. During genetic counseling guidance is provided to HBOC patients and other individuals who may be at risk for familial cancer.

Improved long-term survival rates after allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (alloHCT) make family planning for young adult cancer survivors an important topic. However, treatment-related infertility risk poses challenges. To assess pregnancy and birth rates in a contemporary cohort, we conducted a national multicenter study using data from the German Transplant Registry, focusing on adult women aged 18 to 40 years who underwent alloHCT between 2003 and 2018.

Retrospective analysis of the incidence and outcome of late acute and chronic graft-versus-host disease-an analysis from transplant centers across Europe.

Introduction: Chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGvHD) is a serious late complication of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT).

Methods: This multicenter analysis determined the cumulative incidence (CI) of cGvHD and late acute GvHD (laGvHD) and its impact on transplantation-related mortality (TRM), relapse (R), and overall survival (OS) in 317 patients [296 adults, 21 pediatrics (<12 years of age)] who underwent their first allo-HSCT in 2017.

Results: The CI of laGvHD was 10.

Symptomatic Autonomic Dysfunction in Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder Pain Syndrome.

Importance: Interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) is a highly prevalent condition with incompletely understood pathophysiology, especially in relation to the systemic symptoms experienced. The role of autonomic nervous system dysfunction in IC/BPS remains poorly understood.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess the relationship between autonomic symptom severity and clinical characteristics of patients with IC/BPS.

Efficacy and safety of ruxolitinib in the treatment of chronic graft-versus-host disease: a retrospective analysis.

Steroid-refractory chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGvHD) is associated with significant morbidity and mortality, with ruxolitinib being the first drug approved for its treatment. We retrospectively analyzed the safety and efficacy of ruxolitinib for treatment of cGvHD at our center between 07/2015 and 12/2022 and identified 48 patients receiving ruxolitinib as second (18/48) or advanced (30/48) treatment line. Ruxolitinib was started on median day 340 (range 119-595) after cGvHD onset; median duration of administration was 176 (range, 79-294) days with 16/48 patients continuing treatment at last follow-up.
