The field of Cardio-Obstetrics is focused on mitigating cardiovascular risk among pregnant and post-partum individuals. Due to the complexity of caring for pregnant people with acquired or congenital cardiac disease, patients with these conditions are increasingly managed in multidisciplinary Cardio-Obstetrics teams, which are now considered essential to optimize maternal care in high-risk patients. Cardio-Obstetrics teams are composed of multiple subspecialists and have at least three roles: 1.

Taking risk to heart: An evaluation of cardiometabolic risk and screening guideline adherence in outpatients with spinal cord injury.

Objectives: To evaluate cardiometabolic disease (CMD) in outpatients with spinal cord injury/disease (SCI/D). The study aims were to (1) estimate the prevalence of CMD risk factors in a cohort of Canadian adults with SCI/D; (2) assess whether the frequency of CMD screening aligns with evidence-based guidelines; and (3) gain a preliminary understanding of the barriers to CMD screening and/or treatment within a rehabilitation program setting.

Design: Quality improvement initiative involving chart review extracting the presence of and frequency of screening for four CMD risk factors (obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus).

Background/objectives: Individuals with chronic low back pain (CLBP) have altered lumbar multifidus stiffness properties compared to healthy controls. Although neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) application to the multifidus might affect stiffness, this has never been investigated. The aims of this study were to examine the effect of a single NMES treatment on multifidus stiffness and pain intensity in CLBP patients.

Among the Filoviridae, Marburg virus (MARV) is a biological threat for which no licensed vaccines or therapeutics are currently available. In contrast, we have licensed products for Ebola virus (EBOV), another member of the Filoviridae family. The availability of licensed medical countermeasures (MCMs) for EBOV provides an opportunity to test a key objective of many pandemic preparedness plans, which is to apply some of the same technological approaches demonstrated to be successful for one agent, EBOV, to a second agent, MARV.

Parkwood's VIP4SCI platform: A virtual e-health self-management solution for persons with spinal cord injury across the care continuum.

Objective: Parkwood VIP4SCI platform is a virtual e-health solution adapted from a version created for Spinal Cord Injury Ontario (SCIO) that focused on self-management skill development for persons with spinal cord injury (SCI) transitioning between stages of care, in partnership with caregivers and clinicians. This evaluation of the platform informs the usability and feasibility of a model to facilitate service care aims postrehabilitation.

Design: Inpatients and outpatients admitted to the SCI Rehabilitation Program (n = 31), and a mix of interdisciplinary clinicians on the Rehabilitation Team (n = 20).

Introduction: Possibilities Project Plus (PPPlus) is a free assistive device (AD) marketplace and research platform for persons with disabilities. The overall aim of PPPlus is to increase access to ADs through an integration of service, research and education. To maximize positive outcomes and reflect community needs a co-design approach informed by guiding principles of Integrated Knowledge Translation (IKT) was adopted, with examination of methods related to Experience Based Co-design.

Comparative effectiveness of interventions for cancer treatment-related cognitive impairment in adult cancer survivors: protocol for a systematic review.

Background: Cancer treatment-related cognitive impairment (CTRCI) can substantially reduce the quality of life of cancer survivors. Many treatments of CTRCI have been evaluated in randomized controlled trials (RCTs), including psychological interventions, pharmacologic interventions, and other therapies. There is a pressing need to establish the benefits and harms of previously studied CTRCI treatments.

The effect of EMS, IFC, and TENS on patient-reported outcome measures for chronic low back pain: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Introduction: Chronic low back pain (CLBP) is the leading cause of years lived with disability worldwide. Transcutaneous electrotherapies have been widely used to treat CLBP but, with the partial exception of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), their effect on pain, disability, quality-of-life, and psychosocial outcomes have not been systematically reviewed. The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to clarify the overall effect of transcutaneous electrotherapies on patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) in CLBP patients.

Hypertensive Disorders of Pregnancy: Innovative Management Strategies.

Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) complicate 13% to 15% of pregnancies in the United States. Historically marginalized communities are at increased risk, with preeclampsia and eclampsia being the leading cause of death in this population. Pregnant individuals with HDP require more frequent and intensive monitoring throughout the antepartum period outside of routine standard of care prenatal visits.

Background: Despite preventability, 20-50% of patients with acute spinal cord injury/disease (SCI/D) develop hospital-acquired pressure injuries (PIs). While first-generation vaccines are safe and effective in preventing disease caused by SARS-CoV-2, next-generation vaccines have the potential to improve efficacy and safety. Vaccines delivered by a mucosal route may elicit greater protective immunity at respiratory surfaces, thereby reducing transmission.

Background: Faster delivery of tPA (tissue-type plasminogen activator) results in better health outcomes for eligible patients with stroke. Standardization of stroke protocols in emergency departments (EDs) has been difficult, especially in nonstroke centers. We measured the effectiveness of a centrally led implementation strategy with local site tailoring to sustain adherence to an acute stroke protocol to improve door-to-needle (DTN) times across disparate EDs in a multihospital health system.

This study aimed to summarize the evidence for the efficacy and safety of turmeric in the treatment of digestive disorders, including inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), dyspepsia, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and peptic ulcers. Literature searches were conducted in Medline, EMBASE, AMED, the Cochrane Central Register of Control Trials, and Dissertation Abstracts from inception to November 15, 2021.
