Curcumin is known for its potential health benefits; however, the evidence remains inconclusive regarding its necessity as a supplement for athletes during the preparatory phase of training. This study aimed to assess the effect of 6-week curcumin supplementation at a dose of 2g/day on selected inflammatory markers, blood count, and brain-derived neurotropic factor (BDNF) levels in middle-aged amateur long-distance runners during the preparatory period of a macrocycle. Thirty runners were randomly assigned to either a curcumin-supplemented group (CUR, n = 15) or a placebo group (PLA, n = 15).

This study aims to evaluate the quality of animal presentation at a selected fair in Poland and assess the level of animal welfare evident in the exhibition boxes, contributing to the ongoing dialogue on this important issue. The evaluators used a five-point Likert scale and a Yes/No system to analyze the living conditions during the fair, including the size of containers, presence of substrate, and environmental enrichment.

Identifying factors contributing to unplanned hospital utilization may improve health care quality and patients' well-being. This study aimed to assess if patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) improve performance of machine learning (ML) models predicting hospital admissions, triage events (contacting helpline or attending hospital), and changes to chemotherapy.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a 6-month HY-based training program on H-RF components in sedentary middle-aged women.
Methods: Eighty sedentary women were randomly assigned into either the HY group (HYG) (N.
Objective: To assess the potential influence of replacing Milan criteria with simple risk scores on outcomes of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients undergoing liver transplantation.
Summary Background Data: Several risk scores combining morphological and biological features were recently proposed for precise selection of HCC patients for transplantation.
Methods: This retrospective study included 282 HCC liver transplant recipients.
Objectives: The negative effect of changes in social behavior following traumatic brain injury (TBI) are known, but much less is known about the neuropsychological impairments that may underlie and predict these changes. The current study investigated possible associations between post-injury behavior and neuropsychological competencies of emotion recognition, understanding intentions, and response selection, that have been proposed as important for social functioning.
Methods: Forty participants with TBI and 32 matched healthy participants completed a battery of tests assessing the three functions of interest.
The mechanisms of correcting immune disorders in patients with pancreatic cancer requiring major surgery procedures by introducing perioperative immune-enhancing diet (immunonutrition) are still unclear. The purpose of our study was to investigate the effect of pancreatic cancer, extensive surgery and immunonutrition versus enteral standard nutrition on the apoptotic signaling pathways. The randomized studies were performed in 72 patients before and after pancreatic cancer resection with preoperative standard (Group I) or enteral immunonutrition (Group II).

In all patients with chronic pancreatitis they noted an insufficiency of exocrine pancreatic function with association of disorders of tolerance for carbohydrates during a year after a Puestow's operation. They noted a handicap of exocrine pancreatic function in 42% patients just after acute pancreatitis, in 18% patients a year acute pancreatitis and in 26% patients after 2-6 years from illness with association of disorders of tolerance for carbohydrates.

Significant changes according to Cambridge scale correlated with exocrine-endocrine pancreatic failure. In patients with Wirsung duct of diameter above 6 mm Puestow operation was performed while in patients with narrow Wirsung duct resection procedures were carried out.

The prospective studies included 200 patients, out of whom in 100 patients in the studied group Kefzol was administered prior to and for 24 hours after operation, while in 100 patients in the control group no prevention was used. The percent of infections in the studied group was lower in comparison to the control group (9% vs 25%, p < 0.

We developed a script-based scheme for automated auditing of natural language surgical operative reports. Suitable operations (appendectomy and breast biopsy) were selected, then audit criteria and operation scripts conforming with our audit criteria were developed. Our LISP parser was context and expectation sensitive.
