The absolute total cross section for electron collisions with acetic acid has been measured using an electrostatic electron spectrometer and linear transmission method for collision energies ranging from 0.4 to 300 eV. Elastic electron scattering from acetic acid within a low-energy range has also been studied theoretically using the Schwinger multichannel and R-matrix methods, in the static-exchange and static-exchange plus polarization levels of approximation for energies up to 15 eV.

Background: Vertebrates have one Dicer ortholog that generates both microRNAs (miRNAs) and small interfering RNAs (siRNAs), in contrast to the multiple Dicer-like proteins found in flies and plants. Here, we focus on the functions of the human Dicer (hDicer) helicase domain. The helicase domain of hDicer is known to recognize pre-miRNA substrates through interactions with their apical loop regions.

Ontology-based integration and querying of heterogeneous rare disease data sources - POLVAS perspective.

The integration of rare disease medical databases belonging to different countries is an important problem, as a large number of observations are required for reliable statistical inference of patient data in order to facilitate clinical research. Such integration of national registry data, which requires harmonization of the heterogeneous data sets into a unified view, is facilitated in the European FAIRVASC project by developing a domain-specific ontology. The FAIRVASC project is dedicated to the rare disease of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA) associated vasculitis (AAV).

Purpose: Exercise offers various clinical benefits to older breast cancer survivors. However, studies report that healthcare providers may not regularly discuss exercise with their patients. We evaluated clinical and sociodemographic determinants of receiving advice about exercise from healthcare providers among older breast cancer survivors (aged ≥65 years).

Relapse Predictors in Antineutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibody (ANCA)-Associated Vasculitis.

Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitides (AAVs) are a group of rare diseases with a chronic and relapsing course. Recent treatment guidelines offer many therapeutic options depending mainly on the type of diagnosis and disease manifestations. Areas that remain under discussion include whether all patients diagnosed with AAV belong to a homogeneous group with a similar prognosis at baseline or if the type and duration of remission-inducing treatment should depend on factors other than just diagnosis and disease severity.

Racial, Ethnic, and Socioeconomic Disparities in Meeting Physical Activity Guidelines among Female Breast Cancer Survivors in the United States.

Background: Cancer survivors show low physical activity participation rates in the United States. However, there are limited national-level data on disparities in the prevalence of meeting physical activity guidelines among women with and without breast cancer. We aimed to evaluate national-level trends in meeting physical activity guidelines across demographic and socioeconomic characteristics of breast cancer survivors and women without cancer.

The associations of muscle-strengthening exercise with recurrence and mortality among breast cancer survivors: a systematic review.

Background: Our systematic review aimed to critically evaluate empirical literature describing the association of muscle-strengthening exercise (MSE) with recurrence and/or mortality among breast cancer survivors.

Methods: We included English-language empirical research studies examining the association between MSE and recurrence and/or mortality among females diagnosed with breast cancer. Seven databases (MEDLINE, PsycINFO, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane CENTRAL, and CINAHL) were searched in September 2023.

Data-driven subclassification of ANCA-associated vasculitis: model-based clustering of a federated international cohort.

Background: Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis is a heterogenous autoimmune disease. While traditionally stratified into two conditions, granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) and microscopic polyangiitis (MPA), the subclassification of ANCA-associated vasculitis is subject to continued debate. Here we aim to identify phenotypically distinct subgroups and develop a data-driven subclassification of ANCA-associated vasculitis, using a large real-world dataset.

The population-level effects of omitting chemotherapy guided by a 21-gene expression assay in node-positive breast cancer: a simulation modeling study.

Background: A recent trial showed that postmenopausal women diagnosed with hormone receptor-positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER2)-negative, lymph node-positive (1-3 nodes) breast cancer with a 21-gene recurrence score of ≤ 25 could safely omit chemotherapy. However, there are limited data on population-level long-term outcomes associated with omitting chemotherapy among diverse women seen in real-world practice.

Methods: We adapted an established, validated simulation model to generate the joint distributions of population-level characteristics of women diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer in the U.

Nonlocal correlations transmitted between quantum dots via short topological superconductor.

We study the quasiparticle states and nonlocal correlations of a hybrid structure, comprising two quantum dots interconnected through a short-length topological superconducting nanowire hosting overlaping Majorana modes. We show that the hybridization between different components of this setup gives rise to the emergence of molecular states, which are responsible for nonlocal correlations. We inspect the resulting energy structure, focusing on the inter-dependence between the quasiparticles of individual quantum dots.

Photocrosslinked gelatin/chondroitin sulfate/chitosan-based composites with tunable multifunctionality for bone tissue regeneration.

Novel hydrogel-based multifunctional systems prepared utilizing photocrosslinking and freeze-drying processes (PhotoCross/Freeze-dried) dedicated for bone tissue regeneration are presented. Fabricated materials, composed of methacrylated gelatin, chitosan, and chondroitin sulfate, possess interesting features including bioactivity, biocompatibility, as well as antibacterial activity. Importantly, their degradation and swellability might be easily tuned by playing with the biopolymeric content in the photocrosllinked systems.

Background: Previous studies on Hispanic thyroid cancer cases show sex disparities and an increased prevalence of large tumor sizes and nodal involvement. Here, we characterized Hispanic thyroid cancer cases in California.

Methods: We identified thyroid cancer cases from 2010 to 2020 using the California Cancer Registry by sex, race/ethnicity, histology, TNM stage, tumor size, lymph node involvement, and Charlson comorbidity score.

Purpose: We reviewed existing personalized, web-based, interactive decision-making tools available to guide breast cancer treatment and survivorship care decisions in clinical settings.

Methods: The study was conducted using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR). We searched PubMed and related databases for interactive web-based decision-making tools developed to support breast cancer treatment and survivorship care from 2013 to 2023.

Effectiveness of the Minder Mobile Mental Health and Substance Use Intervention for University Students: Randomized Controlled Trial.

Background: University attendance represents a transition period for students that often coincides with the emergence of mental health and substance use challenges. Digital interventions have been identified as a promising means of supporting students due to their scalability, adaptability, and acceptability. Minder is a mental health and substance use mobile app that was codeveloped with university students.

A Scoping Review of Personalized, Interactive, Web-Based Clinical Decision Tools Available for Breast Cancer Prevention and Screening in the United States.

Unlabelled: Personalized web-based clinical decision tools for breast cancer prevention and screening could address knowledge gaps, enhance patient autonomy in shared decision-making, and promote equitable care. The purpose of this review was to present evidence on the availability, usability, feasibility, acceptability, quality, and uptake of breast cancer prevention and screening tools to support their integration into clinical care. We used the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews Checklist to conduct this review.

Can 5-weeks of Hypopressive Exercise Influence Sagittal Lumbo-Pelvic Position in Athletic and Non-Athletic Females?

Hypopressive exercises (HE) are part of the Low Pressure Fitness training program which is widely used by physical therapists in the rehabilitation of the pelvic floor, abdominal and spinal musculature. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of HE on the sagittal lumbo-pelvic posture in athletic and non-athletic females. It was hypothesized that a 5-week training program of HE could influence lumbo-pelvic position while reducing abdominal circumference and low back pain in athletic and non-athletic females.

Treatment patterns in women of childbearing age and pregnant women with epilepsy in Poland between the years 2019 and 2022-A nationwide population-based cohort study.

Aim: To describe the antiseizure medications (ASMs) prescription pattern in women of childbearing age (WOCA) and pregnant women with epilepsy in the 2019-2022 period in Poland MATERIALS AND METHODS: The National Health Fund (NHF) databases were analyzed. Women aged 15-49 years were considered as being of childbearing age, while exposure during pregnancy was estimated taking into account 15 months before delivery. ASMs belonging to the N03A subgroup of the Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical Classification System, reimbursed by NHF were analyzed.
