Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to evaluate the prognostic impact of isolated tumor cells in sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) of low-risk endometrial cancer patients who did not receive additional therapy.
  • A total of 494 patients were analyzed, finding that recurrence rates were higher in those with SLN-isolated tumor cells, with significant differences in recurrence-free survival between this group and node-negative patients.
  • Although isolated tumor cells were associated with poorer recurrence-free outcomes, no significant differences in overall survival between the two groups were observed.

Herein we present the case of a 33-year nulliparous woman at 21 weeks of gestation with mitral valve vegetation resulting from infective endocarditis. Due to the mother's critical condition caused by consecutive thromboembolic events, surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass was indicated. During surgery the fetus was monitored by a specialized obstetrician who repetitively measured the Doppler indices of the umbilical artery, Ductus venosus and uterine artery.

Article Synopsis
  • A study analyzed the impact of molecular classification on the management of endometrial cancer patients by examining data from 1,357 cases diagnosed in 2016 across Canada, revealing significant molecular subtype diversity.
  • Only a small percentage of patients underwent necessary immunohistochemistry (IHC) testing for MMR and p53 proteins, leading to missed opportunities for early diagnosis and treatment options.
  • The findings highlight the need for standardized biomarker reporting and routine integration of molecular subtyping in pathology practice to improve patient outcomes.

This overview analyzes the data on the controversial therapy of iron substitution during pregnancy, the diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia and the indication-related therapy, and is the first recommendation issued by the OEGGG on the appropriate therapy. The effects of anemia during pregnancy on postnatal outcomes have been intensively investigated with heterogeneous results. A final scientific conclusion with regards to the "optimal" maternal hemoglobin level is limited by the heterogeneous results of various studies, many of which were conducted in emerging nations (with different dietary habits and structural differences in the respective healthcare systems).

Ten percent of all women have pigmented vulvar lesions. Fortunately, most of these are benign but 1% of all melanomas in women affect the vulva. While the mortality rate of cutaneous melanoma has dropped by 7% annually during the last 5 years, the prognosis of vulvar melanoma remains dismal: the 5-year overall survival rate is 47% compared with 92% for cutaneous melanoma.

High-grade serous carcinoma (HGSC) is the most prevalent and aggressive subtype of ovarian cancer. The large degree of clinical heterogeneity within HGSC has justified deviations from the traditional one-size-fits-all clinical management approach. However, the majority of HGSC patients still relapse with chemo-resistant cancer and eventually succumb to their disease, evidence that further work is needed to improve patient outcomes.

Vulvar cancer represents the fourth most common gynecologic malignancy and is often encountered by the general Dermatologist or Gynecologist. Dermatooncologists and Gynecologic Oncologists share expertise in this field and the diagnosis and treatment should ideally be interdisciplinary. All subtypes are typically seen in the later decades of life, although all histologic subtypes have been described in women younger than 30 years.

Objectives: Our primary aim was to confirm whether intertwin discordance in ventricular strain and ductus venosus (DV) time intervals predicts twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS). Secondary aims were to create gestational-age ranges for ventricular strain in uncomplicated monochorionic diamniotic (MCDA) twin pregnancies without selective intrauterine growth restriction (sIUGR) and to characterize the relationship of ventricular strain with gestational age in MCDA twin pregnancies with sIUGR that did not develop TTTS.

Methods: In the period 2015-2018, we enrolled 150 MCDA twin pregnancies consecutively into this prospective, blinded study of global longitudinal left and right ventricular strain.

Background: Chronic hypertension in adults causes arterial lengthening in major arteries, but the effects of early fetal hypertension on the twin-twin transfusion syndrome recipient's vascular architecture remains unknown.

Objective: We hypothesize that arterial cord redundancy is related to recipient hypertension and subsequent heart failure. Our objectives were to: (1) establish a 3-dimensional color Doppler ultrasound method of measuring umbilical arterial length relative to its corresponding venous segment in the umbilical cord using artery vein angle; (2) compare recipient artery vein angle to gestational age-matched controls; and (3) test the association of artery vein angle with recipient heart failure.
