Several data from literature suggest the potential influence of premature delivery with prolonged oxygen suplementation on prevalence of development of allergic diseases in children. The objective of the study was the retrospective analysis of 60 children aged 4 years, prematurely born, and 30 healthy children at the same age (the control group), born at term. In all children, beside detail interview and accurately clinical examination, the estimation of total IgE and specific IgE with chosen inhaled and food allergens was done.

In spite of introducing the new derivatives of fluoroquinolones into treatment in late 70's, the application this kind of chemotherapeutics in children is still controversial. The aim of our study was the evaluation of treatment efficacy and adverse effects associated with the application of ciprofloxacin in premature infants within first months of life. The investigations were performed on 36 premature infants delivered between 25-35 gestational age with birth weight varied from 750-2050 grams, hospitalized in 1993-1999 in Emergency Unit and Department of Pediatric Propedeutics of Institute of Pediatrics of the Medical University of Łódź.

The paper presents results of audiologic assessments hearing examinations in 19 children that received aminoglycosides in cases of pneumonias, meningitis and sepsis. Examination of hearing acuity with otoscopic assessment of the ears, tympanometry, ABR and acoustic otoemission were performed before, directly after infusion and after completion of treatment. After a laryngological examination and of the hearing acuity, tympanometry and the ABR the authors have concluded the normal state of the hearing organ.

1110 neonates, from 30 to 42 of estimated gestational age (EGA) were measured on the 1st day of life to estimate upper mid-arm circumference (MAC) and head circumference (HC). Individual MAC/HC ratio was calculated. MAC/HC ratio was used to estimate gestational age and nutritional status of the newborns.
