This article outlines a roadmap to achieving and maintaining excellence in an ultrasound (US) practice. We present constructive advice on how US practices can achieve and maintain quality, patient and referring physician satisfaction, and efficiency in the setting of rising examination volumes. Accreditation, sonographer and resident/fellow physician training, advanced practice sonographers, and Picture Archiving and Communication System/Artificial Intelligence in US are discussed.

Despite bilateral hippocampal damage dating to the perinatal or early childhood period and severely impaired episodic memory, patients with developmental amnesia continue to exhibit well-developed semantic memory across the developmental trajectory. Detailed information on the extent and focality of brain damage in these patients is needed to hypothesize about the neural substrate that supports their remarkable capacity for encoding and retrieval of semantic memory. In particular, we need to assess whether the residual hippocampal tissue is involved in this preservation, or whether the surrounding cortical areas reorganize to rescue aspects of these critical cognitive memory processes after early injury.

Hypoxia-ischaemia (HI) can result in structural brain abnormalities, which in turn can lead to behavioural deficits in various cognitive and motor domains, in both adult and paediatric populations. Cardiorespiratory arrest (CA) is a major cause of hypoxia-ischaemia in adults, but it is relatively rare in infants and children. Acute sentinel hypoxia-ischaemia in neonates can target the hippocampus, mammillary bodies, thalamus, and the basal ganglia. Our previous work with paediatric patients with a history of hypoxia-ischaemia has revealed hippocampal and diencephalic damage that impacts cognitive memory. Current descriptions of ultrasound evaluations, including use of the term "point-of-care ultrasound" (POCUS), are imprecise because they are predicated on distinctions based on the device used to obtain images, the location where the images were obtained, the provider who obtained the images, or the focus of the examination. This is confusing because it does not account for more meaningful distinctions based on the setting, comprehensiveness, and completeness of the evaluation. In this article, the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound and the members of the American College of Radiology Ultrasound Commission articulate a map of the ultrasound landscape that divides sonographic evaluations into four distinct categories on the basis of setting, comprehensiveness, and completeness.

Mutations in the thyroid hormone receptor α 1 gene () have recently been identified as a cause of intellectual deficit in humans. Patients present with structural abnormalities including microencephaly, reduced cerebellar volume and decreased axonal density. Two-dimensional lead and tin halide perovskites were prepared by intercalating the long alkyl group 1-hexadecylammonium (HDA) between the inorganic layers. We observed visible-light absorption, narrow-band photoluminescence, and nanosecond photoexcited lifetimes in these perovskites. Owing to their hydrophobicity and stability even in humid air, we applied these perovskites in the decarboxylation and dehydrogenation of indoline-2-carboxylic acids.
