In this work, the HR MAS NMR (high-resolution magic-angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance) spectroscopy technique was combined with standard histological examinations to investigate the metabolic features of high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) with a special focus on the relation between a metabolic profile and a cancer cell fraction. The studied group consisted of 44 patients with HGSOC and 18 patients with benign ovarian tumors. Normal ovarian tissue was also excised from 13 control patients.

Soluble mediators of the immune and inflammatory response, including cytokines, are involved in these processes. Therefore, the aim of the conducted research was to understand the role of selected cytokines belonging to the Interleukin-1(IL-1) family, including IL-36α, IL-36β, IL-36γ, IL-36R, IL-37 and IL-38, in the onset and development of endometriosis by analysing the concentration of the tested molecules and to determine whether their concentration depends on the stage of the disease.

The expression of the proteins from the IAP family (inhibitor of apoptosis protein), including survivin, is observed in many types of cancer. The aim of the study was to evaluate survivin at the mRNA level in tumors and the protein concentration in the serum and peritoneal fluid of patients with serous ovarian cancer in order to assess the relationship between the concentration of survivin and the histological subtypes of cancer.

Disturbances of circadian rhythms lead to disruption of cell and tissue homeostasis, which promotes carcinogenesis. The aim of the study was to determine the expression of circadian rhythm-related genes in endometrial cancer and to select miRNAs involved in the regulation of their expression.

Therefore, the present study aimed to analyze the levels of C‑X‑C motif chemokine ligand 8 (CXCL8), and its receptors C‑X‑C chemokine receptor (CXCR)1 and CXCR2, in the serum and peritoneal fluid of women with ovarian cancer, and to evaluate the association between the expression of these parameters in tumor tissue and patient characteristics, particularly the degree of histological differentiation. The study group included women with ovarian cancer diagnosed with serous cystadenocarcinoma International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics stage IIIc and a control group, which consisted of women who were diagnosed with a benign lesion (serous cystadenoma).

The impact of coffee consumption on human health has been the subject of many clinical studies and meta-analyses. Taking into account the results of these studies, it can be concluded that coffee has a number of health benefits in terms of the population, including the reduction of the risk of death from any cause.

Rab proteins are geranylgeranylated at their C-termini, a modification which is important for their stable binding to lipid bilayers. The Rab escort protein (REP) is an accessory protein of the Rab geranylgeranyl transferase (RGT) complex and it is obligatory for Rab prenylation.

The metabolic profiles were obtained from 64 patients (14 with grade 1 (G1), 33 with grade 2 (G2) and 17 with grade 3 (G3) tumors) and compared with the profile acquired from 10 patients with the benign disorders. OPLS-DA revealed increased valine, isoleucine, leucine, hypotaurine, serine, lysine, ethanolamine, choline and decreased creatine, creatinine, glutathione, ascorbate, glutamate, phosphoethanolamine and scyllo-inositol in all EC grades in reference to the non-transformed tissue.

The levels of IL-21 and IL-22 transcripts were evaluated with the use of the real-time RT-qPCR. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to determine the concentration of proteins.

Correct diagnosis is important due to the high malignancy of this cancer and poor prognosis. We present a rare and interesting case of a basaloid squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix in a 71-year-old female with prolapse of the uterus with co-existing atypical undifferentiated sarcoma.

EMT can be initiated in response to the activity of signaling pathways such as Wnt as well as miRNAs.
Objective: The aim of the study was to determine the expression profile of EMT-related genes involved in signal transduction via the Wnt pathway and cadherins and to assess which miRNAs can participate in the regulation of their expression.
Aims: This study aimed to identify patients receiving total hip arthroplasty (THA) for trauma during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the UK and quantify the risks of contracting SARS-CoV-2 virus, the proportion of patients requiring treatment in an intensive care unit (ICU), and rate of complications including mortality.
Methods: All patients receiving a primary THA for trauma in four regional hospitals were identified for analysis during the period 1 March to 1 June 2020, which covered the current peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the UK.
Results: Overall, one of 48 patients (2%) contracted COVID-19 during their admission.
Leydig cell ovarian tumors constitute not only a medical problem for clinicians but also a social problem - which is why women with symptoms of hirsutism relatively quickly contact physicians for medical consultation. Leydig cell ovarian tumor is a rare sex cord-gonadal stromal tumor which constitutes less than 0.5% of ovarian tumors.

Esophageal variceal bleeding is one of the most severe complications that may occur during pregnancy in patients with liver cirrhosis. It may result in death of the mother and the fetus. Therefore, screening endoscopy should be performed both before the conception and in the second trimester.

Background: Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is associated with a significant mortality of up to 50%, with almost all survivors suffering from debilitating functional compromise. In most cases, open craniotomy has failed to yield significant survival benefit. However, emerging evidence suggests that minimally invasive surgery (MIS) may yield clinically significant improvements in patient survival and quality of life in cases where open craniotomy has not shown benefit.
