Physicochemical properties and biological activities of Thai plant mucilages for artificial saliva preparation.

Context: Plant mucilages can be found in various parts of several Thai plants, which can be used as thickening, moisturizing, and lubricating agents in artificial saliva formulations.

Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the physicochemical properties, biological activity, and cytotoxicity of Thai plant mucilages.

Materials And Methods: The mucilages from Thai plants were extracted by various processes (temperature and pH variation, microwave oven, steam, and Tris-HCl buffer extraction).

Long-term survival in infantile malignant autosomal recessive osteopetrosis secondary to homozygous p.Arg526Gln mutation in CLCN7.

Infantile malignant autosomal recessive osteopetrosis (ARO; OMIM 259700) has been reported to be associated with mutations in TCIRG1, CLCN7, or OSTM1. ARO caused by homozygous (or compound heterozygous) mutations in CLCN7, as described here, is usually diagnosed at birth or early in infancy due to generalized osteosclerosis and severe hematologic deficits. The maximal life expectancy of patients with ARO in the absence of bone marrow transplantation is thought to be 10 years.

Novel ferrocenic steroidal drug derivatives and their bioactivities.

Seven novel ferrocenic derivatives, compounds 1-7, were synthesized from steroidal drugs by Aldol condensation reaction. The derivatives were purified by chromatography, and their structures were determined on the basis of HR-ESI-MS and two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy. The purity of all derivatives was more than 95%.
