Satellite geodetic networks are commonly used in surveying tasks, but they can also be used in mobile surveys. Mobile satellite surveys can be used for trackage inventory, diagnostics and design. The combination of modern technological solutions with the adaptation of research methods known in other fields of science offers an opportunity to acquire highly accurate solutions for railway track inventory.

This paper proposes a method for determining the vertical deformations treated as random fields. It is assumed that the monitored surfaces are subject not only to deterministic deformations, but also to random fluctuations. Furthermore, the existence of random noise coming from surface's vibrations is also assumed.

Sets of geodetic observations often contain groups of observations that differ from each other in the functional model (or at least in the values of its parameters). Sets of observations obtained at various measurement epochs is a practical example in such a context. From the conventional point of view, for example, in the least squares estimation, subsets in question should be separated before the parameter estimation.

Objective: To examine the effects of demographic, geographical and socio-economic factors, and the influence of private health insurance, on patterns of prostate cancer care and 3-year survival in Western Australia (WA).

Patients And Methods: The WA Record Linkage Project was used to extract all hospital morbidity, cancer and death records of men diagnosed with prostate cancer between 1982 and 2001. The likelihood of having a radical prostatectomy (RP) was estimated using logistic regression, and the likelihood of death 3 years after diagnosis was estimated using Cox regression.

Objectives: To examine changing treatments for the primary presentation of urinary lithiasis and their effects on re-admissions, repeat procedures, cumulative hospital use and renal preservation.

Patients And Methods: Linked hospital morbidity records were used to identify first-time admissions for renal and ureteric calculi from 1980 to 1997 in the population of Western Australia. The cases were followed to mid-1999 and actuarial methods used to estimate risks of further hospital admissions and procedures, including the loss of a renal moiety.

Objective: To compare the risk of repeat prostatectomy for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in a population-based cohort of 19 598 men in Western Australia treated by transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) or open prostatectomy over a 16-year period.

Patients And Methods: The Western Australian Health Services Research Linked Database was used to extract all hospital morbidity data, death records and prostate cancer registrations for men who had prostate surgery for BPH in 1980-95. The cumulative incidence of first repeat prostatectomy calculated using the actuarial life-table and incidence-rate ratios of the first repeat prostatectomy, comparing TURP and open prostatectomy, were obtained using Cox regression.

Objectives: To examine postoperative mortality and prostate cancer risk after the first prostatectomy for benign prostatic hypertrophy over a 17-year period in a population-based cohort of men in Western Australia, using improved methods to adjust for comorbidity.

Patients And Methods: The relative survival from death and prostate cancer incidence was calculated against the background population rates. The outcomes of transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) and open prostatectomy (OP) were compared adjusting for calendar year, age, admission type and comorbidity using Cox regression.

To explore the possibility of using venous sclerosant therapy to overcome venogenic impotence we studied the effects of ethanolamine on the veins draining the dog penis. Following injection of the sclerosant into the deep dorsal vein radiological and histological evidence of occlusion was obtained but by one month recanalization of thrombi had occurred and collateral venous channels had formed. These findings cast doubt on the effectiveness of this sclerosant as a means of treating impotence.

Primary bladder stones are described as occurring in aboriginal children from native reserves. Here breast feeding is supplemented early in life with white flour and little else. A comparison is made between this diet and that of children in endemic bladder stone regions, and reasons are advanced for the formation of these stones, with biochemical evidence to support the thesis that ammonium acid urate precipitation is the initiating factor.
