The application of recycled concrete aggregates (RCAs) has become increasingly popular for different types of structures, as presented in several studies. However, depending on the type of structure and the region, RCAs might have different properties. This study aims to investigate the application of RCAs of different origins for substructure layers of the cycle paths located in Central Europe, which was not analysed previously.

Survival, recovery, and frequency of antibiotic resistance gene transfer analyses were performed by treating samples with HPP at different pressures (200 MPa and 400 MPa). The results showed that the higher pressure (400 MPa) had a significant effect on increasing the transfer frequency of genes such as , encoding fosfomycin resistance, and , , , responsible for tetracycline resistance, both in vitro and in situ.

Periodontal diseases are the most prevalent in the world and have a very strong impact on patients' well-being and general health. Their treatment generates enormous costs.

This patient, despite their multi-morbidity, undertook family travels to Egypt. Despite disease symptoms and plethora of medication, the patient did not seek medical advice on preventative measures or potential health risks prior to the departure.

Methods: A comprehensive literature search of PubMed, Web of Science and EBSCO research databases was conducted from inception to July 31, 2024. The analysis involved a narrative review.
The gut microbiota plays an important role in host physiology. However, the effects of host sex, lifestyle, and temporal influences on the bacterial community within the gut remain ill-defined. To address this gap, we evaluated 56 male and female mice over a 10-wk study to assess the effects of sex, diet, and exercise on gut community dynamics.

This report presents a unique case of a postmenopausal woman, aged 65, that emphasizes the clinical, radiological, histologic, and immunohistochemical aspects of the disease. On presentation, the patient suffered from severe pain.

This study sought to validate EU-TIRADS nodule selection criteria using data from EUROCRINE, an extensive international endocrine surgery registry.
Method: We reviewed indications for FNAB among patients with TC compared to those with benign disease who underwent surgery between March 2020 and March 2022, considering preoperative EU-TIRADS scores and dominant nodule size (FNAB is recommended in Category 5 (˃10 mm or ˂10 mm with suspicious lymph nodes), 4 (˃15 mm), and 3 (˃20 mm)).
, a bacterium generally isolated from fish and domestic animals, is a rarely reported human pathogen whose clinical characteristics and antimicrobial susceptibility remain uncertain. In this case report we describe a 19-year-old active-duty military sailor who suffered a blast injury to the left foot from a firework explosion. The injury was complicated by a polymicrobial wound infection that included .

Current guidelines recommend a 7- to 10-day course of ertapenem or moxifloxacin, with vancomycin if methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus is suspected, for all penetrating trauma in PCC. Data from civilian and military trauma have demonstrated benefit for antibiotic prophylaxis in multiple types of penetrating trauma, but the recommended regimens and durations differ from those used in PCC, with the PCC guidelines generally recommending broader coverage.

While surgery is still the standard of care, there is a growing interest in minimally invasive methods. Ultrasound (US)-guided percutaneous ablation is particularly attractive because it is a safe and relatively simple procedure.

Currently, approved drugs remain limited to the rare disease hereditary angioedema. However, growing interest in this system is indicated by an increasing number of promising drug candidates for further indications.

However, tools designed for the early identification of those at risk among young adults are lacking. We developed and validated a multivariable model for the prediction of life expectancy, allowing the early identification of apparently healthy adults at risk of lifestyle-related diseases.

We aim to describe the design of a novel isoprenaline-eluting guidewire ("IsoWire") and present the results from the first release studies and the first animal studies showing its effect on IRP. The IsoWire comprises a Nitinol core surrounded by a stainless-steel wire wound into a tight coil.

In addition, the effect of high-pressure stress (400 and 500 MPa) on the expression of selected genes encoding tetracycline resistance was determined, as well as changes in the frequency of transfer of these genes in isolates showing sensitivity to tetracyclines. In our study, we observed an increase in the expression of genes encoding tetracyclines, especially the tet(L) gene, mainly under 400 MPa pressure.

The application of HPP involves the simultaneous action of a combination of several factors-pressure values (100-600 MPa), time of operation (a few-several minutes), and temperature of operation (room temperature or lower)-using a liquid medium responsible for pressure transfer. The combination of these three factors results in the inactivation of microorganisms, thus extending food shelf life and improving the food's microbiological safety.
