Neuropathic pain is a challenge for physicians to treat and often requires a multimodal approach with both pharmacologic and lifestyle interventions. Mirogabalin, a potent, selective ligand of the α2δ-1 and α2δ-2 subunits of voltage-gated calcium channels (VGCCs), provides analgesia by inhibiting neurotransmitter release at the presynaptic end of the neuron. Mirogabalin offers more sustained analgesia than its gabapentinoid counterparts in addition to a wider safety margin for adverse events.

Background and objective Colon cancer is one of the most common types of cancer globally. The factors that could affect colon cancer survival include age, stage, treatment, and other socioeconomic aspects. Payer status has been shown to be a significant predictor of cancer patient survival in retrospective studies.

Background Disparities in access to care and proper treatment can have significant implications in patient survival outcome and mortality. This retrospective study of prostate cancer patients from the National Cancer Database (NCDB) between the years 2004 and 2014 and follow-up to the end of 2015 analyzed such effects that variation in payer status might have on outcome. Methods This study used the data of 696,321 diagnosed prostate cancer patients from the NCDB for the years 2004 to 2014 and follow-up to the end of 2015 to analyze the effect that payer status would have on prostate cancer survival.

BACKGROUND Icosapent ethyl, a form of eicosapentaenoic acid with anti-inflammatory activity, has been approved as an adjunctive treatment with statins in patients with hypertriglyceridemia. Icosapent ethyl is currently undergoing clinical trials to determine its anti-inflammatory effects in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This report describes 3 intensive care unit (ICU) patients with moderate to severe COVID-19 pneumonia treated with icosapent ethyl as part of their supportive care who had favorable outcomes.

The innate immune response tends to become hyperactive and proinflammatory in older organisms. We investigated connections between activity of the immune-related genes and aging using the Drosophila model. A hallmark of Drosophila immunity is the production of antimicrobial peptides (AMP), whose expression is triggered via activation of the Toll and Imd immune pathways and regulated by NF-ĸB-like transcription factors, Dif/Dorsal and Relish.
