A case is presented where the enlargement of the tongue due to acromegaly failed to respond to bromocriptine therapy, resulting in marked dysarthria. A partial glossectomy technique for tongue reduction is described, and the surgical and anaesthetic problems associated with acromegaly are discussed.

Techniques are described for posterior root resection with emphasis on the conservability of apically diseased teeth, even in the presence of systemic diseases. Open operation is suggested for the diagnosis and treatment of apical disease.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe occurrence of temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ) disease in ankylosing spondylitis is not widely recognized and its incidence is disputed. Seventy-nine patients attending two routine rheumatology clinics were therefore examined by dental surgeon and nine (11-5 per cent) were considered to have specific TMJ involvement. These patients were older than the remainder, and had more extensive spinal and peripheral joint disease.
