Children born with congenital upper limb absence exhibit consistent and distinguishable levels of biological control over their affected muscles, assessed through surface electromyography (sEMG). This represents a significant advancement in determining how these children might utilize sEMG-controlled dexterous prostheses. Despite this potential, the efficacy of employing conventional sEMG classification techniques for children born with upper limb absence is uncertain, as these techniques have been optimized for adults with acquired amputations.

We aimed to compare patients who underwent choledochal cyst resection based on cholecystectomy status.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted of patients who underwent choledochal cyst resection between 1/1/1998-12/31/2021.
Background: Postoperative computed tomography imaging has been shown to play an important role in avoiding failure-to-rescue. We sought to examine the impact of the timing of such imaging studies on outcomes after pancreatectomy.
Methods: Patients who underwent pancreatic resection at our institution from 2017 to 2022 were reviewed retrospectively to identify those undergoing computed tomography for any indication before discharge.
In designing femoral components, which restore native (i.e., healthy) knee kinematics, the flexion-extension (F-E) axis of the tibiofemoral joint should match that of the native knee.

Methods: Real-world postoperative care was compared to the pathway described by the PORSCH trial and patients were assigned into groups based on congruence with its recommendations.
Marine heatwaves are increasing in frequency and duration, threatening tropical reef ecosystems through intensified coral bleaching events. We examined a strikingly variable spatial pattern of bleaching in Moorea, French Polynesia following a heatwave that lasted from November 2018 to July 2019. In July 2019, four months after the onset of bleaching, we surveyed > 5000 individual colonies of the two dominant coral genera, Pocillopora and Acropora, at 10 m and 17 m water depths, at six forereef sites around the island where temperature was measured.

There is an urgent need for greater awareness of the importance of frailty measurement and the implementation of universal assessment of frail patients into clinical practice. Pairing risk stratification with stringent protocols for prehabilitation and minimally invasive surgery and appropriate enhanced recovery protocols could optimize and condition frail patients before, during, and immediately after surgery to mitigate postoperative complications and consequences on patient function and quality of life.

Owing to the rarity of the disease, the optimal treatment remains poorly defined, particularly in the adult population. This study aimed to review the literature on adult patients with CCs to evaluate trends of diagnosis and management in Western countries.

The aim of this study is to report on treatment outcomes and patterns of failure of patients with borderline resectable (BL) or locally advanced (LA) pancreatic cancer following preoperative chemotherapy and SBRT.
Methods: We conducted a single-institution, retrospective study of patients with BL or LA PDAC.
This article provides a comprehensive narrative review of physical task-based assessments used to evaluate the multi-grasp dexterity and functional impact of varying control systems in pediatric and adult upper-limb prostheses. Our search returned 1,442 research articles from online databases, of which 25 tests-selected for their scientific rigor, evaluation metrics, and psychometric properties-met our review criteria. We observed that despite significant advancements in the mechatronics of upper-limb prostheses, these 25 assessments are the only validated evaluation methods that have emerged since the first measure in 1948.

The staging of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) is complex, and there is no consensus among international cancer groups on how to most appropriately select candidates with nonmetastatic disease for surgical resection. Factors contributing to a higher stage of disease include larger tumor size, multiple tumors, vascular invasion (either portal venous or arterial), biliary invasion, involvement of local hepatic structures, serosal invasion, and regional lymph node metastases. For patients selected to undergo surgery, it is well-documented that R0 resection translates to a survival benefit.

The adoption of minimally invasive techniques for hepatocellular resection has progressively increased in North America. Cumulative evidence has demonstrated improved surgical outcomes in patients who undergo minimally invasive hepatectomy. In this review, the authors' approach and methodology to minimally invasive robotic liver resection for hepatocellular carcinoma is discussed.

Purpose: Despite improvement in systemic therapy, patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) frequently experience local recurrence. We sought to determine the safety of hypofractionated proton beam radiation therapy (PBT) during adjuvant chemotherapy.
Methods And Materials: Nine patients were enrolled in a single-institution phase 1 trial (NCT03885284) between 2019 and 2022.
Consultation with sheep producers was used to quantify the mortality of triplet-bearing ewes and their lambs, identify management practices adopted by producers to reduce these losses and prioritise future research needs to improve the survival of triplet-bearing ewes and their lambs. Surveys were completed by 64 producers across Australia who identified and separated triplet-bearing ewes from twin-bearing ewes in 2017 and/or 2018. On average, 5.

This study aims to distinguish and explain their effects by investigating how oligomer formation impacts PR's function of proton transport in lipid-based membrane mimetic environments. We find that PR forms stable hexamers and pentamers in both E.

The objective of this study was to demonstrate the feasibility of using an ex vivo MRI-compatible sectioning device for radiologic-pathologic co-localization of lesions in resected liver specimens.
Methods: In this prospective feasibility study, adults undergoing curative partial hepatectomy from February 2018 to January 2019 were enrolled.
Currently, serum carcinoembryonic agent (CEA) along with contrast-enhanced imaging and colonoscopy are used for evaluation of recurrence of colorectal cancer. However, CEA is an unreliable and nonspecific biomarker that may fail to rise and signal relapse. Analysis of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) in patients offers a minimally invasive method to assess risk of relapse several months ahead of conventional clinical means.
