Introduction: There is evidence of positive relationships between cholesterol concentration and risk of cardiovascular diseases. However, higher mortality in patients with a low cholesterol level has been reported (the "cholesterol paradox").
Material And Methods: Medical records of 34 191 inpatients between 2014 and 2016 were reviewed and the relationships between total (TC), low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL-C) cholesterol and triglyceride blood concentrations and all-cause in-hospital death and readmission within 14 and 30 days and 1 year were determined in univariate and multivariate analyses.
Objectives/hypothesis: Recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (RRP) is a benign disease caused by human papillomavirus 6 and 11. The characteristic feature of this disease are wart-like lesions covering the respiratory epithelium with a predilection for the larynx. There is no curative treatment for the disease.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjective: The main goal was to compare the clinical data of patients with T1 and T2 glottic cancer treated with CO transoral laser microlaryngoscopy (TLM) in the Tertiary Referral University Department of Otolaryngology, Head Neck Surgery, Poznan and the local Department of Otolaryngology, Oncology and Maxillofacial Surgery, Bydgoszcz.
Material And Methods: Unified databases for the 7-year period January 2005-December 2011 were created to compare these two cohorts. The database contained 341 patients: 231 from the tertiary center and 110 from the local department, of which 298 (87%) were men, and 43 (13%) were women.
Objective: Laryngeal cancer is a common respiratory cancer. We aimed to use data from European population-based cancer registries to present variations in the incidence and mortality of laryngeal cancer within Europe.
Methods: High-quality data from cancer registries were qualified for analysis.
Conclusions Autofluorescence spectroscopy may be a supporting tool for differential diagnosis of changes in laryngeal epithelium. Objectives Early detection and differential diagnosis of proliferative changes in the larynx are still a challenge for laryngologists. The aim of the study was to evaluate the autofluorescence spectroscopy technique to in vitro differential diagnosis of pathological changes in the epithelium of the larynx.
