Introduction: Acquired hemophilia A (AHA) is a rare bleeding disorder with destruction of factor VIII by autoantibodies. Comprehensive data for Chinese patients are lacking. Predictors of hospital stay have not been investigated.

A specific early eluting peak in Bio-Rad Variant II cation-exchange high-performance liquid chromatography (CE-HPLC) for the screening of alpha-thalassaemia in a Chinese population.

The early eluting peaks in the first minute of cation-exchange high-performance liquid chromatography (CE-HPLC) are often not analysed in haemoglobin pattern studies, except for haemoglobin (Hb) Bart's and Hb H peaks. In this study, we described the presence of a specific α-thalassaemia early eluting peak (αEEP) at the retention time of 0.24 min generated by Variant II CE-HPLC (β-Thalassaemia Short Program; Bio-Rad Laboratories).

Resolution of platelet count interference due to cytoplasmic fragments of leukaemic cells by flow cytometry in acute myeloid leukaemia.

Background: Platelet count interference could lead to problems in clinical decisions especially in the cases of thrombocytopenia. Here we report a case of platelet count interference in Beckman Coulter DxH800 haematology analyser due to cytoplasmic fragments of leukaemic cells in acute myeloid leukaemia. A 19-year-old female patient presented to the emergency department with bruises and anaemic symptoms.

Diagnostic and treatment hurdles in plasma cell myeloma with t(11;14) translocation: A case report.

t(11;14) translocation is one of the most common chromosomal abnormalities in plasma cell myeloma. The present case report presented a case of plasma cell myeloma with t(11;14) translocation, in which the plasma cells were small lymphoplasmacytoids in morphology with positive cluster of differentiation-20 and Cyclin D1 expression. These results led to initial diagnostic difficulties.

Reirradiation of nasopharyngeal carcinoma with intracavitary mold brachytherapy: an effective means of local salvage.

Purpose: To assess the role of intracavitary mold brachytherapy in salvaging local failure of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC).

Methods And Materials: The outcomes of 118 consecutive NPC patients with local failure treated with mold brachytherapy between 1989 and 1996 were retrospectively reviewed. Eleven patients received additional external radiotherapy.
