Cerebral small vessel disease (cSVD) is a common neurological finding characterized by abnormalities of the small blood vessels in the brain. Previous research has established a strong connection between cSVD and stroke, as well as neurodegenerative disorders, notably Alzheimer's disease (AD) and other dementias. As the search for effective interventions continues, physical activity (PA) has emerged as a potential preventative and therapeutic avenue.

Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) is a cancer-causing human herpesvirus that establishes a persistent infection in humans. The lytic viral cycle plays a crucial part in lifelong infection as it is involved in the viral dissemination. The master regulator of the KSHV lytic replication cycle is the viral replication and transcription activator (RTA) protein, which is necessary and sufficient to push the virus from latency into the lytic phase.

There is no consensus regarding how to manage osteonecrosis in pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia patients. Therefore, we performed a quality assessment of the literature with the result of a search strategy using the MESH terms osteonecrosis, children, childhood cancer, surgery, bisphosphonates, 6 hydroxymethyl-glutaryl CoA reductase inhibitors, anticoagulants and hyperbaric oxygen, and terms related to these MESH terms. A randomized controlled trial showed that osteonecrosis can be prevented by intermittent, instead of continuous, corticosteroid administration.

Von Hippel-Lindau disease is a hereditary neoplastic syndrome that generally manifests in early adulthood but does present occasionally in adolescence. In the past, diagnosis and management of this disorder fell within the domain of internists and surgeons. Because pediatricians are now seeing older patients, they must learn to recognize the various components of this disorder.

The treatment of first and second generation patients, having been traumatized by social catastrophes (like German concentration camps), puts a heavy burden on the therapist. To overcome this, the therapist must clearly realize what goes on in himself (countertransference) to avoid unsuitable interpretations and acting out. This counts even more if the therapist himself has undergone social trauma.

A unique case of an osteosarcoma arising within a hamartoma of the thymic gland located in the left pleural cavity of an 11-year-old girl is described. The presence of abundant mature lamellar bone within this thymic hamartoma provides an explanation for the osseous histogenesis of the sarcoma. The development of an osteosarcoma from extraskeletal osseous tissue is a rare occurrence and has been documented in association with myositis ossificans and most recently in a case of dermatomyositis with metaplastic ossification.

Atypical measles is a well-described entity which has a high frequency of pulmonary involvement. Resolution and shrinkage of the pneumonic infiltrates into nodular mass-like lesions have been cited only once before. Three cases of atypical measles pneumonia are described which demonstrate these pulmonary nodular sequelae.

Use of the lateral view in selective renal angiography is helpful in differentiating cysts from tumors. The position of the cyst is better defined, facilitating aspiration if necessary, while in malignant masses this technique gives a better idea of the dimensions and vascularity of the tumor. Three illustrative cases are presented.

Nitroparaffins act on the guinea-pig ileum by several mechanisms. They produce contraction partly by ganglionic stimulation and partly by direct liberation of transmitter from the nerve endings. They also inhibit the response to acetylcholine and nicotine, but interfere less with the action of histamine, serotonin or bradykinin.
