Antecedent hypoglycemia suppresses the counterregulatory responses to subsequent hypoglycemic episodes, which can be prevented by normalizing portal-mesenteric vein (PMV) glycemia alone during the antecedent bout. Since the sodium-glucose transporter 3 receptor has been implicated in PMV glucosensing, we hypothesized that PMV infusion of the sodium-glucose cotransporter 3 receptor agonist N-hydroxyethyl-1-deoxynojirimycin (miglitol) would rescue the sympathoadrenal response to subsequent hypoglycemia. Rats underwent hyperinsulinemic-hypoglycemic clamps on 2 consecutive days without miglitol infusion (antecedent hypoglycemia without miglitol [HYPO]) or with miglitol infused upstream in the PMV, perfusing the glucosensors, or adjacent to the liver, bypassing PMV glucosensors, on day 1 or day 2.

Single particle inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (spICP-MS) is an emerging technique that is capable of simultaneous measurement of the size and number concentration of metal-containing nanoparticles (NPs) at environmentally relevant levels. Although spICP-MS is widely applied to different fields, challenges remain in obtaining accurate and consistent particle number concentration (PNC) measurements. This contribution describes a Decision Tree intended to guide the selection of statistical models and data reduction procedures in key comparisons (KCs). The Decision Tree addresses a specific need of the Inorganic Analysis Working Group (IAWG) of the Consultative Committee (CC) for Amount of Substance, Metrology in Chemistry and Biology (CCQM), of the International Committee for Weights and Measures (CIPM), and it is likely to address similar needs of other working groups and consultative committees. Because the portfolio of KCs previously organized by the CCQM-IAWG affords a full range of opportunities to demonstrate the capabilities of the Decision Tree, the majority of the illustrative examples of application of the Decision Tree are from this working group.

Synthetic cannabinoids are the largest and most structurally diverse class of new psychoactive substances, with manufacturers often using isomerism to evade detection and circumvent legal restriction. The regioisomeric methoxy- and fluorine-substituted analogs of SDB-006 (N-benzyl-1-pentyl-1H-indole-3-carboxamide) were synthesized and could not be differentiated by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), but were distinguishable by liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight-MS (LC-QTOF-MS). In a fluorescence-based plate reader membrane potential assay, SDB-006 acted as a potent agonist at human cannabinoid receptors (CB EC = 19 nM).

Stomach contents were collected from 117 yellow rays Urobatis jamaicensis from three locations in south Eleuthera, The Bahamas and compared with ambient infauna via sediment surveys. Diets were relatively limited with a total of 535 prey items recovered, representing five taxonomic groups and dominated by polychaetes and decapod crustaceans (87% of total diet), while environmental sampling reported 5249 individual taxa represented by 62 taxonomic groups. Regardless of gravidity, sex or density of prey items among sites, no significant differences were detected.
