The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the role news organizations play in disseminating information and shaping public response to the crisis. This study adopts an ecological approach in examining Russian regional journalists' adaptations to the pandemic. Based on in-depth interviews, the study found that a worsened economic situation has increased dependence on state subsidies.

Background: Public health officials and journalists play a crucial role in disseminating information regarding natural disasters, terrorism and other human-initiated disasters. However, research suggests that journalists are unprepared to cover terrorism and many types of natural disasters, in part because of lack sufficient expertise in science and medicine and training. The objective of this research was to identify solutions to problems facing journalists and public health public information officer (PIOs) of communicating with the public during natural and human-initiated disasters.

This study uses literature on the sociology of professions and explores the impact of Internet use on the degree to which patients believe doctors are the sole source of expert medical knowledge. A survey of 406 respondents was conducted to assess this question. Findings lend some support to the idea that the spread of Internet-based professional knowledge erodes the ability of professionals to control their knowledge.
