Article Synopsis
  • This study explored how dobutamine affects water transport in toad bladders, finding that it doesn't change basal water flow but partially inhibits vasopressin-stimulated transport.
  • Dobutamine did not impact the response to cAMP stimulation but interfered with responses triggered by a specific phosphodiesterase inhibitor, suggesting it acts before cAMP formation.
  • The results indicate that dobutamine's inhibitory effect on vasopressin-stimulated water transport involves alpha(2)-adrenoceptors, enhancing understanding of dobutamine's role in renal function.

Background And Objectives: The aim of this work was to study the effects of low intensity laser radiation on water transport in the toad bladder in vitro.

Study Design/materials And Methods: The water flow through the membrane was measured gravimetrically in bag preparations of the membrane.

Results: Laser radiation did not alter the water transport in the presence nor in the absence of vasopressin.
