Several recent systematic reviews and case series have highlighted common clinical presentations and management strategies. Comprehensive eye exams are recommended at least every 2 years for people with diabetes for early identification and treatment of diabetic eye disease, but screening rates remain suboptimal. Our objective was to qualitatively assess barriers and facilitators to completing recommended eye exam screening for patients with diabetes among providers and practice staff. As part of a larger initiative, we conducted discussion groups with healthcare providers and practice staff to evaluate factors related to referral and screening for diabetic eye disease at 2 sites, a safety-net healthcare system and a specialty clinic.

Introduction: In 2023, a group of experts proposed that a definition of major bleeding in pharmaceutically anticoagulated patients be used in all snakebite trials. This includes bleeding that results in death, is life-threatening, causes chronic sequelae, or consumes major healthcare resources, including bleeding into a major area or hemoglobin concentration decrease ≥20 g/L. We hypothesized that a decline in hemoglobin concentration ≥20 g/L is common but rarely clinically significant in our population of Arizona rattlesnake bite patients.

For more than a century, coral reefs have been exposed to increasing anthropogenic disturbances that have profoundly altered their community structure. These perturbations continue to challenge coral reefs in new ways as ecological paradigms are recast in the Anthropocene Epoch. In recent decades, macroalgal blooms have blighted Caribbean reefs, but the appearance of aggressive peyssonnelioid algal crusts (PAC) that are rapidly increasing in abundance to become dominant members of the benthos on Caribbean and Indo-Pacific reefs is a novel phenomenon in tropical seas.

The Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T Cell Safety Database Project explored the use of cross-study safety data to identify risk factors associated with severe cytokine release syndrome (sCRS) and severe neurological toxicities (sNTX) after CAR T cell administration. Sponsors voluntarily submitted data for 1,926 subjects from 17 phases 1 and 2 studies (six acute lymphocytic leukemia [ALL], five non-Hodgkin's lymphoma [NHL], and six multiple myeloma [MM] studies). Subjects with ALL had a higher risk for developing sCRS and sNTX compared with subjects with NHL or MM.

Colchicine is an antimitotic agent that binds tubulin and inhibits microtubule polymerization.
