The invisible nature of economic abuse contributes to its pervasiveness. Through interviews with 14 women survivors in Canada, this study identifies the ways in which economic abuse is (in)visible to survivors. There were three major themes: "Constructing and maintaining the fairy-tale" describes how gender roles and ideas of love concealed abuse.

Precision medicine requires highly scalable methods of multiplexed biomarker quantification that can accurately describe patient physiology. Unfortunately, contemporary molecular detection methods are generally limited to a dynamic range of sensitivity spanning just 3-4 orders of magnitude, whereas the actual physiological dynamic range of the human plasma proteome spans more than 10 orders of magnitude. Current methods rely on sample splitting and differential dilution to compensate for this mismatch, but such measures greatly limit the reproducibility and scalability that can be achieved-in particular, the effects of non-linear dilution can greatly confound the analysis of multiplexed assays.

Introduction: Individuals with anorexia nervosa (AN) harbour distinct gut microbiomes compared with healthy individuals, which are sufficient to induce weight loss and anxiety-like behaviours when transplanted into germ-free mice. We hypothesise that faecal microbiome transfer (FMT) from healthy donors would help restore the gut microbiome of individuals with AN, which in turn, may aid patient recovery.

Methods: We aim to conduct an open-label pilot study in 20 females aged 16-32 years in Auckland, New Zealand who meet the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fifth edition (DSM-5) criteria for AN and have a body mass index 13-19 kg/m.

A rigid H-shaped, [2]rotaxane molecular shuttle comprised of an axle containing two benzimidazole recognition sites and a central 2,2'-bipyridyl (bipy) group interlocked with a 24-crown-8 (24C8) wheel was synthesized using a threading followed by stoppering protocol. The central bipy chelating unit was shown to act as a speed bump that raised the barrier to shuttling for the [2]rotaxane. Coordination of a PtCl moiety to the bipy unit in a square planar geometry created an insurmountable steric barrier to shuttling.

Two new caulamidines C () and D () and three isocaulamidines B, C, and D (, , and ) along with the known compound caulamidine B () were isolated from the marine ascidian sp. Their structures were elucidated by analysis of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) data. Isocaulamidines have an altered pattern of -methyl substitution (N-15 vs N-13 in the caulamidines) with a concomitant double-bond rearrangement to provide a new C-14/N-13 imine functionality.

Heat stress (HS) markedly affects postabsorptive energetics and protein metabolism. Circulating urea nitrogen increases in multiple species during HS and it has been traditionally presumed to stem from increased skeletal muscle proteolysis; however, this has not been empirically established. To develop stable paclitaxel (PTX)-loaded bovine serum albumin (BSA) nanoparticles (BSA-NPs-PTX) as drug-delivery vehicles for delivering paclitaxel into the brain to treat glioma. This study used PTX-loaded BSA NPs coated with polysorbate 80 (Ps 80) to enhance PTX concentration in the brain. The low IC indicated that the fabricated BSA-NPs-PTX and BSA-NPs-PTX-Ps 80 showed significantly enhanced cytotoxicity.

Objectives: To inform the development and evaluation of new blood-based colorectal cancer (CRC) screening tests satisfying minimum United States (US) coverage criteria, we estimated the impact of the different test performance characteristics on long-term testing benefits and burdens.

Methods: A novel CRC-Microsimulation of Adenoma Progression and Screening (CRC-MAPS) model was developed, validated, then used to assess different screening tests for CRC. We compared multiple, hypothetical blood-based CRC screening tests satisfying minimum coverage criteria of 74% CRC sensitivity and 90% specificity, to measure how changes in a test's CRC sensitivity, specificity, and adenoma sensitivity (sizes 1-5 mm, 6-9 mm, ≥10 mm) affect total number of colonoscopies (COL), CRC incidence reduction (IR), CRC mortality reduction (MR), and burden-to-benefit ratios (incremental COLs per percentage-point increase in IR or MR).
