Background: Bronchiolitis is a common lower respiratory tract illness, usually of viral aetiology, affecting infants younger than 24 months of age and is the most common cause of hospitalisation of infants. It causes airway inflammation, mucus production and mucous plugging, resulting in airway obstruction. Effective pharmacotherapy is lacking and bronchiolitis is a major cause of morbidity and mortality.

Purpose: Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) is a chronic condition with a constellation of symptoms presenting as severe and profound fatigue of ≥ 6 months not relieved by rest. ME/CFS affects health-related quality of life (HRQoL), which can be measured using multi-attribute health state utility (HSU) instruments. The aims of this study were to quantify HSUs for people living with ME/CFS, and to identify an instrument that is preferentially sensitive for ME/CFS.

Introduction: The New Zealand (NZ) Central Region Stroke Network, serving 1.17 million catchment population, changed to tenecteplase for stroke thrombolysis in 2020 but was forced to revert to Alteplase in 2021 due to a sudden cessation of drug supply. We used this unique opportunity to assess for potential before and after temporal trend confounding.

For cells to initiate and sustain a differentiated state, it is necessary that a 'memory' of this state is transmitted through mitosis to the daughter cells. Mammalian switch/sucrose non-fermentable (SWI/SNF) complexes (also known as Brg1/Brg-associated factors, or BAF) control cell identity by modulating chromatin architecture to regulate gene expression, but whether they participate in cell fate memory is unclear. Here we provide evidence that subunits of SWI/SNF act as mitotic bookmarks to safeguard cell identity during cell division.

Background: Little is known about how life events such as changes in parental or employment status influence sedentary behaviour (SB). Women from disadvantaged neighbourhoods are at particular risk of poor health, therefore, in this population group this study aimed to determine between changes in parental and employment status with sitting, television viewing (TV), and computer time.

Methods: Women (18-45 years) from socioeconomically disadvantaged neighbourhoods self-reported their employment status, number of children, sitting, TV, and computer time [(baseline (n = 4349), three (n = 1912) and 5 years (n = 1560)].

Article Synopsis
  • The MYC oncogene helps cells grow and multiply, but also makes them more likely to die when they don't have enough energy.
  • When cells with too much MYC lose glutamine, they run out of important energy-building substances, which causes stress on the cell.
  • Glutamine is more important for cell energy than for making certain proteins, and stopping energy production can help keep tumors from growing in certain cancers.

Various mechanical and chemotherapeutic methods are used to control dental plaque accumulation and prevent or reduce gingivitis. The purpose of this 12-week clinical trial was to investigate the effects of various combinations of supervised mechanical and chemotherapeutic regimens on the prevention and reduction of plaque, gingivitis, and gingival bleeding.Volunteers presenting with some evidence of gingivitis and no severe periodontitis were randomized into four groups: brush only (BO); brush/rinse (BR); brush/floss (BF); brush/floss/rinse (BFR) for this examiner-blinded clinical trial.

Objective: The most common surgically treatable epilepsy syndrome is mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (mTLE). Preoperative noninvasive lateralization of mTLE is challenging in part due to rapid contralateral seizure spread. Abnormal connections in both the mesial temporal lobe and resting-state networks have been described in mTLE, but it is unclear if connectivity between these networks may aid in lateralization.

Objective: We sought to augment the presurgical workup of medically refractory temporal lobe epilepsy by creating a supervised machine learning technique that uses diffusion-weighted imaging to classify patient-specific seizure onset laterality and surgical outcome.

Methods: 151 subjects were included in this analysis: 62 patients (aged 18-68 years, 36 women) and 89 healthy controls (aged 18-71 years, 47 women). We created a supervised machine learning technique that uses diffusion-weighted metrics to classify subject groups.

Background And Objectives: Functional connectivity (FC) measures can be used to differentiate epileptogenic zones (EZs) from non-EZs in patients with medically refractory epilepsy. Little work has been done to evaluate the stability of stereo-EEG (SEEG) FC measures over time and their relationship with antiseizure medication (ASM) use, a critical confounder in epilepsy FC studies. We aimed to answer the following questions: Are SEEG FC measures stable over time? Are they influenced by ASMs? Are they affected by patient data collection state?

Methods: In 32 patients with medically refractory focal epilepsy, we collected a single 2-minute prospective SEEG resting-state (awake, eyes closed) data set and consecutive 2-minute retrospective pseudo-rest (awake, eyes open) data sets for days 1-7 postimplantation.

Clozapine is a key antipsychotic drug for treatment-resistant schizophrenia but exhibits highly variable pharmacokinetics and a propensity for serious adverse effects. Currently, these challenges are addressed using therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM). This study primarily sought to (i) verify the importance of covariates identified in a prior clozapine population pharmacokinetic (popPK) model in the absence of environmental covariates using physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modelling, and then to (ii) evaluate the performance of the popPK model as an adjunct or alternative to TDM-guided dosing in an active TDM population.

Background: Socioeconomically disadvantaged women are at an increased risk of sedentary behaviors including television (TV) viewing and computer use, so identifying determinants of these behaviors is important.

Methods: Women (n = 4349) self-reported weekly TV and computer time (in minutes per week), sociodemographic, and health data at 3 time points (2007-2013). Mixed-effect negative binomial regression was used to determine the baseline determinants of TV viewing and computer use over time, adjusting for confounders.
