Although in several EU Member States many public interventions have been running for the prevention and/or management of obesity and other nutrition-related health conditions, few have yet been formally evaluated. The multidisciplinary team of the EATWELL project will gather benchmark data on healthy eating interventions in EU Member States and review existing information on the effectiveness of interventions using a three-stage procedure (i) Assessment of the intervention's impact on consumer attitudes, consumer behaviour and diets; (ii) The impact of the change in diets on obesity and health and (iii) The value attached by society to these changes, measured in life years gained, cost savings and quality-adjusted life years. Where evaluations have been inadequate, EATWELL will gather secondary data and analyse them with a multidisciplinary approach incorporating models from the psychology and economics disciplines.

Bright field microscopy and elastic light scattering measurements are used in combination to interrogate trapped particles and explore the optical landscape of the trap. We conclude that the Bessel trap has a number of advantages over optical tweezers in terms of characterisation of accumulation mode particles, manipulation of particles over macroscopic length scales and effective control of the gas phase.

We demonstrate the ability to direct the flow of aerosol droplets through a trapping cell using a tailored optical landscape generated by spatial light modulation. Using an optical barrier, droplets held in an optical trap can be effectively isolated from other droplets within the aerosol. To illustrate the effective isolation we compare the influence of different optical landscapes on the flow of free aerosol around a trapped droplet.

Objectives: To prospectively evaluate Polyflex stents to treat malignant dysphagia and to ameliorate weight loss in patients with locally advanced esophageal cancer who will undergo neoadjuvant therapy.
Design: A prospective nonrandomized study.
Background: Both gastroesophageal reflux disease and allergy/atopy have been implicated in the pathogenesis of eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). There are no prospective studies comparing treatment of EoE with acid suppression versus topical corticosteroids.
Objective: To determine the outcome of adult eosinophilic esophagitis patients treated with esomeprazole versus topical fluticasone.
Arrays of optically tweezed aerosol droplets, each of sub-picolitre volume, are manipulated by holographic optical tweezers and characterised by cavity enhanced Raman spectroscopy. A spatial light modulator is employed to generate arrays of optical traps from a single laser beam and to control the array dimensions and relative trap positions. Comparative hygroscopicity measurements are performed concurrently on five trapped droplets by monitoring the evolving size of each droplet.

We have made the surprising discovery that the interactions of herpes simplex virus with its initial cell attachment receptor induce a rapid and highly efficient structural change in the tegument, the region of the virion situated between the membrane and the capsid. It has been known for nearly a decade that viruses can trigger host signaling pathways when they bind to receptors on the cell surface; however, until now there has been no evidence that a signal can be sent in reverse--from the "outside in"--across a viral membrane. Evidence for this signaling event was found during studies of UL16, a tegument protein that is conserved among all the herpesviruses.
