Purpose: The primary aim was to determine Child Health Utility 9D (CHU9D) utilities from the Caregiver Priorities and Child Health Index of Life with Disabilities (CPCHILD) for non-ambulatory children with cerebral palsy (CP).

Methods: One hundred and eight surveys completed by Australian parents/caregivers of children with CP were analysed. Spearman's coefficients were used to investigate the correlations between the two instruments.

Hip Surveillance and Management of Hip Displacement in Children with Cerebral Palsy: Clinical and Ethical Dilemmas.

Hip displacement is the second most common musculoskeletal deformity in children with cerebral palsy. Hip surveillance programs have been implemented in many countries to detect hip displacement early when it is usually asymptomatic. The aim of hip surveillance is to monitor hip development to offer management options to slow or reverse hip displacement, and to provide the best opportunity for good hip health at skeletal maturity.

Two-year outcomes following a randomised platelet transfusion trial in preterm infants.

Objective: Assess mortality and neurodevelopmental outcomes at 2 years of corrected age in children who participated in the PlaNeT-2/MATISSE (Platelets for Neonatal Transfusion - 2/Management of Thrombocytopenia in Special Subgroup) study, which reported that a higher platelet transfusion threshold was associated with significantly increased mortality or major bleeding compared to a lower one.

Design: Randomised clinical trial, enrolling from June 2011 to August 2017. Follow-up was complete by January 2020.

Introduction: During the COVID-19 pandemic, support services for children and youth quickly shifted to virtual means. To continue delivering essential, trauma-informed, specialized services, the center transitioned to providing most services by phone/video conference.

Method: A quality improvement project using survey methods was conducted to determine if virtual delivery was timely and satisfactory for inpatient and outpatient care.

Introduction: Two million out of the UK's 5 million routine diagnostic CT scans performed each year incorporate the thoracolumbar spine or pelvic region. Up to one-third reveal undiagnosed osteoporosis or vertebral fractures. Hip surveillance programs for children with CP were developed at the beginning of the new millennium, with the purpose of identifying hip displacement sufficiently early to permit a choice of effective management options. Epidemiology of scoliosis in cerebral palsy: A population-based study at skeletal maturity.

Aim: This study investigated the prevalence of scoliosis in a large, population-based cohort of individuals with cerebral palsy (CP) at skeletal maturity to identify associated risk factors that may inform scoliosis surveillance.

Methods: Young people with CP born between 1990 and 1992 were reviewed through routine orthopaedic review or a transition clinic. Classification of CP was recorded by movement disorder, distribution, gross and fine motor function.

Improved SARS-CoV-2 M inhibitors based on feline antiviral drug GC376: Structural enhancements, increased solubility, and micellar studies.

Replication of SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus causing COVID-19, requires a main protease (M) to cleave viral proteins. Consequently, M is a target for antiviral agents. We and others previously demonstrated that GC376, a bisulfite prodrug with efficacy as an anti-coronaviral agent in animals, is an effective inhibitor of M in SARS-CoV-2.

Musculoskeletal Pathology in Cerebral Palsy: A Classification System and Reliability Study.

This article presents a classification of lower limb musculoskeletal pathology (MSP) for ambulant children with cerebral palsy (CP) to identify key features from infancy to adulthood. The classification aims to improve communication, and to guide referral for interventions, which if timed appropriately, may optimise long-term musculoskeletal health and function. Consensus was achieved by discussion between staff in a Motion Analysis Laboratory (MAL).

Identifying Environmental Risk Factors for Louping Ill Virus Seroprevalence in Sheep and the Potential to Inform Wildlife Management Policy.

Identifying the risk factors for disease is crucial for developing policy and strategies for controlling exposure to pathogens. However, this is often challenging, especially in complex disease systems, such as vector-borne diseases with multiple hosts and other environmental drivers. Here we combine seroprevalence data with GIS-based environmental variables to identify the environmental risk factors associated with an endemic tick-borne pathogen-louping ill virus-in sheep in Scotland.

Assessing Family Medicine Residents' Preparedness for the Practice of Geriatric Care.

Introduction: Family physicians provide care to a growing and often complex group of older adults. Family medicine residencies are expected to prepare trainees to manage the medical and social needs of these seniors, but whether they feel prepared to do so is unknown. This study aimed to assess family medicine residents' sense of preparedness to address geriatric-related issues, and to identify factors that might affect this self-evaluation.

More than an X-ray: Experiences and perspectives of parents of children with cerebral palsy when engaging in hip surveillance.

Aim: We explored the experiences of parents of children with cerebral palsy (CP) when engaging in hip surveillance for their child and aimed to identify the barriers and facilitators they encounter.

Methods: We conducted a pragmatic qualitative study through five focus groups conducted with 23 parents and primary care givers of young people with cerebral palsy. A semi-structured topic guide was used to facilitate discussion.

Widespread neonatal infection with phocid herpesvirus 1 in free-ranging and stranded grey seals Halichoerus grypus.

Phocid herpesvirus 1 (PhHV-1) is known to infect grey seals Halichoerus grypus but little is known about its pathogenicity or true prevalence in this species. To investigate the prevalence of and risk factors associated with PHV-1 infection, nasal swabs were collected from grey seal pups and yearlings on the Isle of May, a well-studied grey seal breeding colony, and from stranded grey seal pups submitted to a rehabilitation centre. PhHV-1 nucleic acids were detected in nasal swabs from 58% (52/90) of live free-ranging grey seal pups, 62% (18/29) of live stranded grey seal pups and 28% (5/18) of live free-ranging yearlings, suggesting recrudescence in the latter.

Reliability of Radiographic Assessments of the Hip in Cerebral Palsy.

Introduction: Children with cerebral palsy are at risk for progressive hip displacement. Since surveillance for hip displacement uses specific radiographic measurements to guide decision making, it is important to establish the reliability of these measurements, which include Reimer's migration percentage (MP), acetabular index or acetabular angle (AI or AA), and pelvic obliquity (PO). The purpose of this study was to determine the intraobserver and interobserver reliability of these radiographic measures among an international group of pediatric orthopaedic surgeons participating in the prospective international multicenter Cerebral Palsy Hip Outcomes Project (CHOP) currently underway to evaluate the outcomes of hip interventions in cerebral palsy.

Randomized Trial of Platelet-Transfusion Thresholds in Neonates.

Background: Platelet transfusions are commonly used to prevent bleeding in preterm infants with thrombocytopenia. Data are lacking to provide guidance regarding thresholds for prophylactic platelet transfusions in preterm neonates with severe thrombocytopenia.

Methods: In this multicenter trial, we randomly assigned infants born at less than 34 weeks of gestation in whom severe thrombocytopenia developed to receive a platelet transfusion at platelet-count thresholds of 50,000 per cubic millimeter (high-threshold group) or 25,000 per cubic millimeter (low-threshold group).

Classifying Adverse Events Following Lower Limb Orthopaedic Surgery in Children With Cerebral Palsy: Reliability of the Modified Clavien-Dindo System.

Background: The modified Clavien-Dindo (MCD) system is a reliable tool for classifying adverse events (AEs) in hip preservation surgery and has since been utilized in studies involving lower limb surgery for ambulant and nonambulant children with cerebral palsy (CP).
