Medication-refractory focal epilepsy poses a significant challenge, with approximately 30% of patients ineligible for surgery due to the involvement of eloquent cortex in the epileptogenic network. For such patients with limited surgical options, electrical neuromodulation represents a promising alternative therapy. In this study, we investigate the potential of non-invasive temporal interference (TI) electrical stimulation to reduce epileptic biomarkers in patients with epilepsy by comparing intracerebral recordings obtained before, during, and after TI stimulation, and to those recorded during low and high kHz frequency (HF) sham stimulation.

Why does the growth of most life forms exhibit a narrow range of optimal temperatures below 40°C? We hypothesize that the recently identified stable range of oceanic temperatures of ~5 to 37°C for more than two billion years of Earth history tightly constrained the evolution of prokaryotic thermal performance curves to optimal temperatures for growth to less than 40°C. We tested whether competitive mechanisms reproduced the observed upper limits of life's temperature optima using simple Lotka-Volterra models of interspecific competition between organisms with different temperature optima. Model results supported our proposition whereby organisms with temperature optima up to 37°C were most competitive.

Black patients with tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) have higher mortality than White patients. Health disparities related to other patient-important outcomes, such as exercise performance, have not been studied in this population. We aimed to determine if there are racial disparities related to exercise performance in patients with TOF and to investigate possible mediators of those disparities.

Background: Physician involvement in quality improvement and patient safety (QIPS) work is critical for success. It is often difficult to engage physicians in this work given competing priorities and lack of individual benefits for participation.

Program Inception And Development: The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) Portfolio Program was created to establish a systematic process for review and approval of health care organizations' implementation of QIPS work and that allows organizations to offer continuing certification credit to physicians who meaningfully engage in that same work.

Background: This protocol describes a realist review exploring the problem of "missingness" in healthcare, defined as the repeated tendency not to take up offers of care that has a negative impact on the person and their life chances. More specifically, the review looks at the phenomenon of patients missing multiple appointments in primary care in the UK - at the causal factors that influence how patients come to be "missing" in this way, and what interventions might support uptake and "presence" in healthcare. Background research informing this project suggests that a high rate of missed appointments predicted high premature death rates, and patients were more likely to have multiple long-term health conditions and experience significant socioeconomic disadvantage.
