Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is an interstitial, fibrotic lung disease characterized by progressive damage. Lung tissues with IPF are replaced by fibrotic tissues with increased collagen deposition, modified extracellular matrix, all which overall damages the alveoli. These changes eventually impede the gas exchange function of the alveoli, and eventually leads to fatal respiratory failure of the lung.

There is considerable effort to mitigate harm through avoiding excessive prescribing and reducing the risk of persistent postoperative opioid use. Improving perioperative documentation practices has been reported to ensure appropriate opioid initiation and de-escalation.

However, the dynamics of chromatin states and epigenetic enzymes involved remain poorly understood. Here we show that BAT development is selectively marked and guided by repressive H3K27me3 and is executed by its demethylase Jmjd3.
