Predictors for success of non-operative management of adhesive small bowel obstruction.

Background: Majority of adhesive small bowel obstruction (SBO) cases can be managed non-operatively. However, a proportion of patients failed non-operative management.

Aim: To evaluate the predictors of successful non-operative management in adhesive SBO.

Transient oculomotor nerve palsy due to non-aneurysmal neurovascular compression.

Acute oculomotor nerve palsy requires urgent exclusion of aneurysmal compression. We report a 62year old man with a transient right third nerve palsy with pupillary involvement, who was found to have neurovascular compression of the cisternal oculomotor nerve as it curved over a duplicated superior cerebellar artery on high resolution MR imaging. Direct vascular compression should be considered in patients with isolated cranial neuropathies in whom other pathologies have been excluded.

Gender symmetry in intimate aggression: an effect of intimacy or target sex?

Men's greater use of direct aggression is not evident in studies of intimate partner aggression. In previous research, the effects of target sex and relationship intimacy have frequently been confounded. This study sought to examine these effects separately.
