Postoperative Recurarization in a Pediatric Patient After Sugammadex Reversal of Rocuronium-Induced Neuromuscular Blockade: A Case Report.

We present a case of a pediatric patient who developed recurarization after a cardiac catheterization procedure. Intraoperative neuromuscular blockade was achieved with 2 doses of rocuronium, and the blockade was reversed with a bolus dose of sugammadex at the end of the procedure. While recovering in the pediatric cardiac intensive care unit, the patient developed respiratory failure and a decline in the train-of-four response.

Dysregulation of Lipid Metabolism in Mkp-1 Deficient Mice during Gram-Negative Sepsis.

Mitogen-activated protein kinase phosphatase (Mkp)-1 exerts its anti-inflammatory activities during Gram-negative sepsis by deactivating p38 and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK). We have previously shown that mice, but not mice, exhibit hypertriglyceridemia during severe sepsis. However, the regulation of hepatic lipid stores and the underlying mechanism of lipid dysregulation during sepsis remains an enigma.

Botulinum Toxin in the Treatment of Facial Paralysis.

This article reviews the current literature supporting the use of botulinum toxin in producing symmetric facial features and reducing unwanted, involuntary movements. Methods, protocols, and adverse events are discussed. Additionally, the authors suggest that using botulinum toxin A therapy in postparalytic facial synkinesis can provide long-term results when used in conjunction with other treatment modalities.

Modelling the isotopic evolution of the Earth.

We present a flexible multi-reservoir (primitive lower mantle, depleted upper mantle, upper continental crust, lower continental crust and atmosphere) forward-transport model of the Earth, incorporating the Sm-Nd, Rb-Sr, U-Th-Pb-He and K-Ar isotope-decay systematics. Mathematically, the model consists of a series of differential equations, describing the changing abundance of each nuclide in each reservoir, which are solved repeatedly over the history of the Earth.
