Background: Prolonged radiation treatment time (RTT) is associated with worse tumor control. Here we identify and determine the implications of factors that predict treatment prolongation in Veterans Affairs (VA) patients undergoing chemoradiation.
Methods: Chart review from July 2000 to October 2013.
Objective: Determine the efficacy of a swallow preservation protocol (SPP) on maintaining swallow function in patients undergoing chemoradiation (CRT) or radiation therapy alone (RT) for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC).
Study Design: Retrospective case series.
Setting: Veterans Affairs medical center.
