Objective: To evaluate the effect of varying concentrations of brilliant blue green (BBG) and their different biochemical characteristics on retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells under xenon light source illumination at varying distances to identify safe parameters for intraoperative use.

Methods: Human retinal RPE cells (ARPE-19) were exposed to two concentrations (0.25 and 0.

The Advanced Topographic Laser Altimeter System (ATLAS) on the Ice, Cloud, and Land Elevation Satellite (ICESat-2) mission is a six beam, low energy, high repetition rate, 532 nm laser transmitter with photon counting detectors. Although designed primarily for detecting height changes in icecaps, sea ice and vegetation, the polar-orbital satellite will observe global surface water during its designed three year life span, including inland water bodies, coasts, and open oceans. In preparation for the mission, an ICESat-2 prototype or the Multiple Altimeter Beam Experimental Lidar (MABEL), was built and flown on high altitude aircraft experiments over a range of inland and near-shore targets.

Purpose: To determine the efficacy of the Modified Atkins Diet (MAD) and Ketogenic Diet (KD) in seizure control within a population of myoclonic-astatic epilepsy (MAE) patients.

Methods: This was a retrospective, single center study evaluating the seizure control by high fat diets. Seizure diaries kept by the parents performed seizure counts.

Background: Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) frequently appear iron deplete but whether this is a reflection of dietary iron intakes is not known.

Methods: Dietary data were collected from 29 patients with inactive or mildly-active IBD and 28 healthy controls using a validated food frequency questionnaire that measured intakes of iron and its absorption modifiers. Non-haem iron availability was estimated using a recently developed algorithm.

Background: Iron deficiency anaemia and oral iron supplementation have been associated negatively with quality of life, and with adverse effects, respectively, in subjects with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Hence, the risk-benefit ratio of oral iron is not understood in this patient group. The present case-control study investigated whether dietary iron intake impacts on quality of life in IBD patients.

The half-a-tetratricopeptide repeat (HAT) motif is a helical repeat motif found in proteins that influence various aspects of RNA metabolism, including rRNA biogenesis, RNA splicing, and polyadenylation. This functional association with RNA suggested that HAT repeat tracts might bind RNA. However, RNA binding activity has not been reported for any HAT repeat tract, and recent literature has emphasized a protein binding role.

Fe deficiency and Fe-deficiency anaemia are common in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Traditional clinical markers of Fe status can be skewed in the presence of inflammation, meaning that a patient's Fe status can be misinterpreted. Additionally, Fe absorption is known to be down-regulated in patients with active IBD.

We retrospectively investigated outcome data for vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) in children less than 12 years of age with intractable seizures and mitochondrial disease. Five children with a mitochondrial disease, due to electron transport chain deficiency, were studied. Information was collected from clinic visits prior to, and subsequent to, VNS implantation.

Forty-three children less than 12 years of age having intractable seizures were treated with vagus nerve stimulation. Five children were monitored for <12 months, 16 children for 12 to 17 months, and 22 children for > or =18 months with overall median seizure reduction of 55%. Thirty-seven percent had at least 90% reduction.
