Background: Characterizing patient-ventilator interaction in critically ill patients is time-consuming and requires trained staff to evaluate the behavior of the ventilated patient.
Methods: In this study, we recorded surface electromyography ([Formula: see text]) signals from the diaphragm and intercostal muscles and esophageal pressure ([Formula: see text]) in mechanically ventilated patients with ARDS. The sEMG recordings were preprocessed, and two different algorithms (triangle algorithm and adaptive thresholding algorithm) were used to automatically detect inspiratory patient effort.
To determine neutralizing activity against the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 ancestral strain and 4 variants of concern, we tested serum from 30 persons with breakthrough infection after 2-dose vaccination. Cross-variant neutralizing activity was comparable to that after 3-dose vaccination. Shorter intervals between vaccination and breakthrough infection correlated with lower neutralizing titers.

These data emphasize that nonpharmaceutical interventions for coronavirus disease remain crucial and that additional immunizations for the elderly might become necessary.
