Introduction: Patients with pelvic fragility fractures suffer from high morbidity and mortality rates. Despite the high incidence, there is currently no regional or nationwide treatment protocol which results in a wide variety of clinical practices. Recently, there have been new insights into treatment strategies, such as early diagnosis and minimally invasive operative treatment.

Background: Electronic medical records or electronic health records, collectively called electronic records, have significantly transformed the healthcare system and service provision in our world. Despite a number of primary studies on the subject, reports are inconsistent and contradictory about the effects of electronic records on mortality. Therefore, this review examined the effect of electronic records on mortality.

Background: Older adults receiving home care have a higher risk of visiting the emergency department (ED) than community-dwelling older adults not receiving home care. This may result from a higher incidence of comorbidities and reduced functional autonomy in home care recipients. Since people receive different types of home care because of their different comorbidities and autonomy profiles, it is possible that distinguishing between the form of home care can help identify subpopulations with different risks for ED visits and help develop targeted interventions.

Chitin, a polysaccharide found in the fungal cell wall and the exoskeletons of house dust mites and cockroaches, has garnered attention as a potential immunoreactive allergen. Mammals have evolved to express chitin-degrading chitinases (acidic mammalian chitinase/AMCase and chitotriosidase) that may modulate immune responses to chitin. We have previously reported that mice deficient in AMCase () demonstrated better lung function during allergic fungal asthma.

The "can do, do do" framework combines measures of poor and normal physical capacity (PC, measured by a 6 min walking test, can do/can't do) and physical activity (PA, measured by accelerometer, do do/don't do) into four domains and is able to categorize patient subgroups with distinct clinical characteristics, including fall and fracture risk factors. This study aims to explore the association between domain categorization and prospective fall, fracture, and mortality outcomes. This 6-year prospective study included patients visiting a Fracture Liaison Service with a recent fracture.

Background And Purpose: Recent research has highlighted non-operative management (NOM) as a viable alternative for frail older adults with hip fractures in the final phase of life. This study aims to guide Dutch physicians and hospitals nationwide in a standardised implementation of shared decision-making regarding surgery or NOM in selected frail older adults with a hip fracture.

Methods And Analysis: The patient population for implementation includes frail older adults aged ≥70 years with an acute proximal femoral fracture, nursing home care or a similar level of care elsewhere and at least one additional criterion (ie, malnutrition, severe mobility impairment or ASA≥4).

Article Synopsis
  • The androgen receptor (AR) is a protein that regulates gene expression by binding to specific DNA sequences, and its structure when bound to two natural androgen response elements (AREs) has been studied.
  • The research reveals how mutations causing androgen insensitivity affect the AR's ability to bind DNA and dimerize, with detailed structural data obtained through X-ray crystallography.
  • Findings indicate that the binding of the AR to DNA involves cooperative interactions between its two domains, with implications for understanding how certain mutations may influence its function.

Neuropathology is often mediated by interactions between neurons and glia that cannot be modeled by monocultures. However, cocultures are difficult to use and analyze for high-content screening. Here, we perform compound screening using primary neuron-glia cultures to model inflammatory neurodegeneration, live-cell stains, and automated classification of neurons, astrocytes or microglia using open-source software.

Introduction: Immunization helps reduce morbidity and mortality attributable to severe vaccine-preventable childhood illnesses. However, vaccination coverage and the quality of immunization data remain challenging in Ethiopia. This has led to poor planning, suboptimal vaccination coverage, and the resurgence of vaccine-preventable disease outbreaks in under-immunized pocket areas.

Background: The use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) has been associated with an increased fracture risk in observational studies. However, the reported association between PPI use and bone mineral density (BMD), bone microarchitecture, and bone strength is inconsistent. This study aims to assess the association between PPI use and bone microarchitecture and strength using high-resolution peripheral quantitative CT (HR-pQCT) in a three-year follow-up study in patients with a recent fracture visiting the Fracture Liaison Service (FLS).
