Background: Milrinone is commonly prescribed to critically ill patients who need extracorporeal life support such as extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). Currently, the effect of ECMO and CRRT on the disposition of milrinone is unknown.

One in three patients admitted to intensive care will sustain a pressure injury (PI) from a medical device. These injuries are painful and when on the face, head or neck they can result in permanent disfigurement. Preliminary evidence of the efficacy of hyper-oxygenated fatty acids (HOFAs) to prevent facial pressure injuries from medical devices is promising; however, the feasibility of incorporating HOFAs into current standard care to prevent PI from a medical device of the face, head and neck has not been extensively explored.

Recent trials have shown the efficacy of trastuzumab deruxtecan (T-DXd) in HER2-negative patients, but there is not yet a way to identify which patients will best respond, especially with the inability of current HER2 IHC and FISH assays to accurately determine HER2 expression in the unamplified setting. Here, we present a heavily pre-treated patient with triple-negative breast cancer (HER2 IHC 0 who had a complete response to T-DXd. In this case, we used a CLIA-certified reverse-phase protein array-based proteomic assay (RPPA) to determine that the patient had moderate HER2 protein expression (HER2 2+, 42%) and activation (HER2 1+, 23%).

Recent advances in therapy and the promulgation of multidisciplinary pulmonary embolism teams show great promise to improve management and outcomes of acute pulmonary embolism (PE). However, the absence of randomized evidence and lack of consensus leads to tremendous variations in treatment and compromises the wide implementation of new innovations. Moreover, the changing landscape of health care, where quality, cost, and accountability are increasingly relevant, dictates that a broad spectrum of outcomes of care must be routinely monitored to fully capture the impact of modern PE treatment.

The purpose of this study is to determine whether a family member's cancer diagnosis influences the risk of psychological illness and cardiovascular disease in first-degree relatives and spouses of patients affected by cancer.

Methods: This retrospective cohort analysis evaluated the risk of psychological illness and cardiovascular disease in first-degree relatives and spouses of patients diagnosed with a genitourinary cancer between 1990 and 2015 compared to relatives of those not diagnosed with a genitourinary cancer.

Objectives: Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) was legalized in Canada in 2016, necessitating greater education and training in MAiD for physicians and nurse practitioners. To meet this need, the Canadian MAiD Curriculum (CMC) was developed to offer a nationally accredited, comprehensive, bilingual, hybrid (synchronous and asynchronous) educational program to support and enhance the practice of MAiD in Canada.

The relationship between the evolutionary dynamics observed in contemporary populations (microevolution) and evolution on timescales of millions of years (macroevolution) has been a topic of considerable debate. Historically, this debate centers on inconsistencies between microevolutionary processes and macroevolutionary patterns. Here, we characterize a striking exception: emerging evidence indicates that standing variation in contemporary populations and macroevolutionary rates of phenotypic divergence is often positively correlated.

We employed laser microdissection to selectively harvest tumor cells and stroma from the microenvironment of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) tissues. The captured HNSCC tissue fractions were analyzed by quantitative mass spectrometry-based proteomics using a data independent analysis approach. In paired samples, we achieved excellent proteome coverage having quantified 6,668 proteins with a median quantitative coefficient of variation under 10%.

Approximately 15 million babies are born preterm (<37 weeks of completed gestation) worldwide annually. Although neonatal and perinatal medicine have contributed to the increased survival rate of preterm newborn infants, premature infants are at increased risk of mortality in the first years of life. Infants born preterm are at four times the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) compared to infants born at term.
