Methods: Fall SPU poster and podium presentations from 2017-2019 and 2021 were identified and reviewed for authorship (academic position), institutional (presence of pediatric urology fellowship), and publication (date of publication, journal, impact factor, and changes in authorship) details.

How Many Lymph Nodes are Enough in Paratesticular Rhabdomyosarcoma?

Background: Treatment strategies for paratesticular rhabdomyosarcoma (PT RMS) are based on stage, which requires accurate lymph node (LN) evaluation. Previous methodology for determining quantity of LN for negative nodal status is based on LN positivity rates, without accounting for the relationship between LNs or amongst patients. This study aims to quantify the chance of missing involved LNs based on LN yield (LNY) using a previously established methodology in comparison to current recommendations.

The differential proteomic response to ischemic stroke in appalachian subjects treated with mechanical thrombectomy.

Introduction: The Appalachia region of North America is known to have significant health disparities, specifically, worse risk factors and outcomes for stroke. Appalachians are more likely to have comorbidities related to stroke, such as diabetes, obesity, and tobacco use, and are often less likely to have stroke interventions, such as mechanical thrombectomy (MT), for emergent large vessel occlusion (ELVO). As our Comprehensive Stroke Center directly serves stroke subjects from both Appalachian and non-Appalachian areas, inflammatory proteomic biomarkers were identified associated with stroke outcomes specific to subjects residing in Appalachia.

Examining HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) acceptability among rural people who inject drugs: predictors of PrEP interest among syringe service program clients.

Rural communities in the US have increasing HIV burden tied to injection drug use, yet engagement in pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) care has been low among people who inject drugs (PWID). Syringe service programs (SSPs) are widely implemented in Kentucky's Appalachian region, presenting an important opportunity to scale PrEP services. This paper examines PrEP awareness, interest and preferences among PWID attending community-based SSPs in Appalachia.

Introduction: Previous studies noted varied adherence to clinical practice guidelines (CPGs), but studies are yet to quantify adherence to American Urological Association BPH guidelines. We studied guideline adherence in the context of a new quality improvement collaborative (QIC).

Background: Disturbances in gonadal development lead to increased risk of gonadal malignancy in some but not all patients with differences in sex development (DSD). However, the natural history of these tumors is poorly described, and the literature remains sparse.

Background: Pediatric cystic renal lesions are challenging to manage as little is known about their natural course. A modified Bosniak (mBosniak) classification system has been proposed for risk stratification in pediatric patients that takes ultrasound (US) and/or computed tomogram (CT) characteristics into account.
