The growing number of people living in vehicles in the urban United States in recent years makes their water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) an increasingly relevant public health issue. The WASH context of people living in recreational vehicles (RVs) presents unique challenges, especially as it relates to wastewater disposal. This study answers the question: How do RV residents typically manage their wastewater and meet their other WASH needs? We examined the experiences of RV residents in Seattle, Washington participating in Seattle Public Utilities' mobile pump-out program, which has offered a free, typically monthly, door-to-door RV wastewater disposal service since 2020.

A Randomized Clinical Trial of Technology-Enhanced Family-Focused Therapy for Youth in the Early Stages of Mood Disorders.

Objective: Family-focused therapy (FFT) is associated with enhanced outcomes in youth with bipolar and depressive disorders, but has not been evaluated in conjunction with mobile health tools. In symptomatic adolescents whose parents had histories of mood disorders, we examined whether the effects of telehealth-based FFT were augmented by mobile health apps that emphasized mood tracking and family coping skills.

Method: Participants (aged 13-19 years) had active mood symptoms and a parent with major depressive or bipolar disorder.

Previous studies show zinc supplementation improves steatosis and glucose metabolism, but its therapeutic effects in patients with established NAFLD remain unclear. We developed an in vivo model to characterize the effects of zinc supplementation on high-fat diet (HFD) induced NAFLD and hypothesized that the established NAFLD would be attenuated by zinc supplementation.

Drivers of shared decision making in inpatient psychiatry: An exploratory survey of patients' and multi-disciplinary team members' perspectives.

Objective: To assess the prevalence and predictors of Shared Decision Making (SDM) in an adult, inpatient psychiatric setting.

Method: Multi-disciplinary clinician focus groups and patient pre-testing informed the development of a survey on 4 SDM and 11 factors hypothesized to interfere with SDM. The survey was administered to 89 adult inpatients (80% response rate) and their treatment team psychiatrists, nurses, and social workers (n = 338 ratings, 95% response rate).

This study examined the acceptability and initial efficacy of an app-enhanced Unified Protocol for Adolescents [UP-A] when including youth with more severe mood disorders or psychotic spectrum disorders.

Methods: We first adapted a mobile application (app), based on user-centered feedback from adolescents and their parents, to assist participants in reviewing session content, practicing skills learned in previous treatment sessions, and monitoring symptomatic progress.

Mixed-linkage glucan, which is widely distributed in grasses, is a polysaccharide highly abundant in cell walls of grass endosperm and young vegetative tissues. Lichenases are enzymes that hydrolyze mixed-linkage glucan first identified in mixed-linkage glucan-rich lichens. In this study, we identify a gene encoding a lichenase we name Brachypodium distachyon LICHENASE 1 (BdLCH1), which is highly expressed in the endosperm of germinating seeds and coleoptiles and at lower amounts in mature shoots.

Introduction: Identification of groups of patients or interventions with higher associated treatment costs may be beneficial in efforts to decrease the overall financial burden of glioblastoma (GBM) treatment. The authors' objective was to evaluate perioperative surgical treatment cost differences between elderly and nonelderly patients with GBM using the Value Driven Outcome (VDO) database.

Methods: The authors obtained data from a retrospective cohort of GBM patients treated surgically (resection or biopsy) at their institution from August 2011 to February 2018.
