Gene flow is important for maintaining the genetic diversity required for adaptation to environmental disturbances, though gene flow may be limited by site fidelity in small coastal sharks. Bonnethead sharks ()-a small coastal hammerhead species-demonstrate site fidelity, as females are philopatric while males migrate to mediate gene flow. Consequently, bonnetheads demonstrate population divergence with distance, and Atlantic populations are genetically distinct from those of the Gulf of Mexico.

Seizures induce hippocampal subregion dependent enhancements in microglia/macrophage phagocytosis and cytokine release that may contribute to the development of epilepsy. As a model of hyperactive mTOR induced epilepsy, neuronal subset specific phosphatase and tensin homolog (NS-Pten) knockout (KO) mice exhibit hyperactive mTOR signaling in the hippocampus, seizures that progress with age, and enhanced hippocampal microglia/macrophage activation. Biallelic pathogenic variants in the essential DNA repair gene causes Fanconi anemia, complementation group FA-D1. DNA replication through a challenging genomic landscape is coordinated by the replisome, which must adjust to local conditions to provide appropriate replication speed and respond to lesions that hinder its progression. We have previously shown that proteasome shuttle proteins, DNA Damage Inducible 1 and 2 (DDI1/2), regulate Replication Termination Factor 2 (RTF2) levels at stalled replisomes, allowing fork stabilization and restart. Here, we show that during unperturbed replication, RTF2 regulates replisome localization of RNase H2, a heterotrimeric enzyme that removes RNA from RNA-DNA heteroduplexes.

Many individuals with opioid use disorder come into contact with the justice system each year, making the nexus between the criminal justice system and the health care system a critical juncture for responding to the opioid crisis and simultaneously promoting public health and public safety. Collaborations across these sectors are essential to providing effective screening, treatment, and discharge planning; connecting individuals to services following release; promoting long-term recovery while reducing recidivism; and ultimately bringing the opioid crisis under control. A 193 cm total length female bull shark Carcharhinus leucas was captured in Florida bearing intentionally attached materials which resembled a harness. Harness-type live bait rigs are commonly used for small baitfish; some anglers use such devices with small sharks when targeting large sharks and bony fish. Biofouling on the apparatus and the extent of the injuries indicated the material had likely been on the shark for several years.

Interventions and research to address the US opioid crisis have, for the most part, targeted opioid use, misuse, and addiction specifically. While such a focus can lead to useful innovations in the care of opioid use disorder, the fact that many persons with opioid use disorder use multiple substances (both over their life course and simultaneously in drug-using episodes) makes it imperative to address broader issues of addiction in persons who have opioid use disorder as their presenting concern. Because of integrated care and the ability to target multiple clinical concerns in parallel, the Veterans Administration (VA) may be uniquely situated to address the key issue of multi-morbidity that persons with opioid use disorder so frequently exhibit.

Although interorganizational relationships (IORs) are essential to the effective delivery of human services, very little research has examined relationships between juvenile justice agencies and behavioral health providers, and few studies have identified the most critical organizational and individual-level characteristics influencing IORs. Across 36 sites, juvenile probation officials (n = 458) and community behavioral health providers (n = 91) were surveyed about characteristics of their agencies, themselves, and IORs with each other.
