A 27 year old patient with a thrombosis of the subclavian vein (Paget- von Schroetter's-syndrome) was treated successfully with a systemic streptokinase thrombolysis. Indications and success of the different therapeutic ways in current literature (conventional management, systemic and local thrombolysis) are compared to each other. The authors prefer treatment with systemic thrombolysis, patients with contraindications should be treated with conservative management.

B-scan was performed to examine the orbits of 54 patients with Graves' disease. The thickness of the medial and lateral rectus muscle was measured and the results were compared to a control of 24 persons. 21 of the 54 patients with Graves' disease showed different degrees of eye changes in Graves' disease (Class I to IV).

Present available conservative methods of treatment were evaluated in 148 patients with euthyroid endocrine ophthalmopathy. Levothyroxine was used as the basic drug in confirming normal thyroid function after goitre operation or radio-iodine therapy. By application of streptozotocin diabetes mellitus is induced in rats: 40 mg/kg body weight streptozotocin produce a fairly serious diabetes with minimal ketosis, 125 mg/kg body weight streptozotocin cause a severe diabetic keto-acidosis. After 72 hours these animals and also a group of control animals receive 8.33 mCi/animal 3H-leucine intraperitoneally.

Our results demonstrate that the thyreotropin induced exophthalmus is a useful model for testing the efficacy of drugs in animal experiments. Concerning the exophthalmus producing tissue factors till now only qualitative results could be offered. Measuring the incorporation of 3H methionine the statements could be improved quantitatively.

Description of the value of cytology in the ambulant diagnosis of the thyroid gland bases on more than 4000 aspiration-punctions of thyroid gland (Wohlenberg and Pfannenstiel 1974). The indications and contraindications of the aspiration-punction are specified; the scintigraphic cold area is elaborated as a domin of the aspiration-punction. The applied technique and classification of the cytological diagnoses are 99 per cent identical with the histological diagnoses.

Statistical analysis of indexed information on 5,4 million men, subject to military conscription, gave a goitre incidence of 15.29 per cent. This corresponds to an endemic state and would suggest that goitre prevention programme is needed.
