Purpose Of Review: The purpose of this review is to investigate the use of digital health technologies and/or digital therapeutics (DTx) products in the treatment of substance use disorders (SUDs) in the general population and among criminal justice-involved individuals.

Recent Findings: Despite an expanding evidence base, only three SUD DTxs have received federal regulatory approval. Across studies, DTx products have proven successful in engaging patients in SUD treatment and reducing healthcare costs and resource utilizations.

In this paper, we combine administrative data for Spain from 2010 to 2018 with meteorological data, to identify the effect of daily mean temperature on fertility. We demonstrate for Spain that hot days (≥25°C) decrease the total fertility rate nine months after exposure. Moreover, we do not observe any substantial heterogeneities in the effect of heat by mother's age, mother's educational attainment, sex of the newborn, climatic area, or air conditioning penetration.

Introduction: The unique red blood cell (RBC) properties that characterize the rare neuroacanthocytosis syndromes (NAS) have prompted the exploration of osmotic gradient ektacytometry (Osmoscan) as a diagnostic tool for these disorders. In this exploratory study, we assessed if Osmoscans can discriminate NAS from other neurodegenerative diseases.

Methods: A comprehensive assessment was conducted using Osmoscan on a diverse group of patients, including healthy controls ( = 9), neuroacanthocytosis syndrome patients ( = 6, 2 VPS13A and 4 XK disease), Parkinson's disease patients ( = 6), Huntington's disease patients (n = 5), and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis patients ( = 4).

Background: Relapse in pediatric acute myeloid leukemia (pedAML) patients is known to be associated with residual leukemic stem cells (LSC). We have previously shown that epithelial membrane protein 1 (EMP1) is significantly overexpressed in LSC compared to hematological stem cell fractions. EMP1 was also documented as part of the 17-gene stemness score and a 6-membrane protein gene score, both correlating high EMP1 expression with worse overall survival.

Background: In patients without a family history, Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is typically diagnosed at around 4-5 years of age. It is important to diagnose DMD during infancy or toddler stage in order to have timely access to treatment, opportunities for reproductive options, prevention of potential fatal reactions to inhaled anesthetics, awareness of a child's abilities needed for good parenting, and opportunities for enrolment in clinical trials.

Microbiomes feature complex interactions between diverse bacteria and bacteriophages. Synthetic microbiomes offer a powerful way to study these interactions; however, a major challenge is obtaining a representative bacteriophage population during the bacterial isolation process. We demonstrate that colony isolation reliably excludes virulent viruses from sample sources with low virion-to-bacteria ratios such as feces, creating "virulent virus-free" controls.

When using ray tracing for optical system design, it is often the case that the designer would like to implement simplified versions of one or more compound lens groups. This could be the case during initial layout when idealized versions of such compound lenses are needed or, perhaps alternatively, to mimic a well-corrected commercially available lens for which the prescription details are unavailable. One option is to use a paraxial thin lens as a proxy for the actual lens group, but doing so will yield a layout that is not consistent with Fermat's principle or the Abbe sine condition.

Introduction: Postmarketing drug safety surveillance research has focused on the product-patient interaction as the primary source of variability in clinical outcomes. However, the inherent complexity of pharmaceutical manufacturing and distribution, especially of biologic drugs, also underscores the importance of risks related to variability in manufacturing and supply chain conditions that could potentially impact clinical outcomes.
